The Horizon League had 33 teamshonored Thursday by the NCAA for achieving multi-year academic performance rates (APR) in the top 10 percent of their NCAA Division I peers.

The Horizon League had a team ranked in the top 10 percent in 14 of the 19 sports the conference sponsors and eight of the 10 schools had at least one team recognized. Six of the Horizon League’s regular season or tournament champions in the 2010-11 season are also ranked in the top 10 percent in their sports APR.

Butler led all conference schools with 11 teams honored. Valparaiso had six teams honored and Loyola had five. Cleveland State was next with four, while Detroit, Green Bay and Wright State all had two teams recognized. Milwaukee had one team receive recognition.

There are 954 NCAA teams being recognized this year for high achievement, including 560 women’s teams and 394 men’s or mixed squads. Top performing APRs this year ranged from 978 to a perfect 1,000, with the majority of teams earning a perfect APR.

Each year the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship.  The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that includes scores from the 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years.
