GENEVA, Ohio -- Milwaukee seeks its eighth straight men's indoor track and field championship this weekend, while vying for its third straight women's crown, at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the GaREAT Sports Complex in Geneva, Ohio.  The Championships will run Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26-27, with HorizonLeague.com provided a recap of the days' events.

Student-athletes from six different schools set League top performances heading into the championships, with Detroit's Lesley Hanna dominating the sprints and Butler's trio of Kris Gauson, Ross Clarke and Justin Roeder taking top honors in the distance events.  Ben Crogan set the standard in both the pole vault and heptathlon, while teammates Nick Hughes and Durrell Busby own the top marks in the high jump and 60-meter high hurdles.

Youngstown State controlled the throws, with Bobby Grace and George Thomas sitting at the top in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, entering the championships.  Jarrett Mickens of Valparaiso has the top long jump mark in the League this season and is second only to Loyola's James McLaughlin in the triple jump.

On the women's side, student-athletes from Milwaukee, Youngstown State, Detroit, Butler, Wright State, Loyola, and UIC all own top marks.  The Penguins lead the way with four top individual efforts, as Ciara Jarrett has the top 200 meter time in the League; Katrina Rettburg, Kaitlyn Griffith and Alexis Hall all have top field efforts, with Rettburg owning the top spot in the high jump, Griffith the shot put and Hall the weight throw.

Cassandra Lloyd gives Wright State top honors in the 60m high hurdles, returning as the defending champion.  Her teammate, Kylie Kopp, takes the best pentathlon effort of the year into the championships.

Milwaukee's Simbi Laaro is one of a trio of Panthers with top marks, ranking at the top of the League in the 60 meters.  Reigna Pierce is first in the long jump while teammate Samit Taylor is atop the triple jump rankings.

In the distance events, Kirsty Legg owns the top time in the 800m, 1 mile and 3,000m entering the Championships, with teammate Katie Clark controlling the 5,000m.
