INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Valparaiso senior thrower Steve Bartholomew and Youngstown State freshman sprinter Breanne Romeo were tabbed Horizon League Indoor Men's and Women's Track Athletes of the Week.

Male Athlete of the Week
Steve Bartholomew

Sr., Valparaiso, Ind.
Bartholomew got off to a strong start to his senior campaign as he won the weight throw with a mark of 57-feet, 3-inches, while competing at the 2007 Redbird Open in Normal, Ill., on Dec. 8. The Indiana native's winning toss was 18 inches farther than the runner-up in the event.

Female Athlete of the Week

In first her first collegiate meet of her career, Romeo won the 400-meter dash in a time of 56.06 while competing at the 2007 Golden Flash Gala in Kent, Ohio on Dec. 7. Her mark in the event ranks as the second-fastest time in school history. She also clocked a time of 25.54 to take fifth in the 200-meter dash. Romeo's time in the 200m ranks fifth on YSU's career charts.

Sever placed ninth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.64 at the Eastern Illinois Early Bird Meet in Charleston, Ill., on Dec. 8. Sever's time in the event tied the school record.

Andrew Hayner

Hayner finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run as he posted a career-best indoor time of 15:34.31 while competing at the Blue and Gold Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., on Dec. 7.

Sam McClain
Loyola
So., Abilene, Kan.
McClain made his Loyola debut on Dec. 8 at the 2007 Redbird Open in Normal, Ill. The LU sophomore clocked a time of 2:01.74 to win the 800-meter run.

Scott Streiner
Youngstown State
Sr., Poland, Ohio
Streiner won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.21 to open the season at the Golden Flash Gala on Dec. 7 in Kent, Ohio. His mark ranks as the seventh best time in school history and was a personal-best. The senior also placed eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.10. His time of 7.09 in the preliminary heat ties him for seventh on the YSU record chart.

Shiell won the women's 3,000-meter run at the Eastern Illinois Early Bird Meet in Charleston, Ill., on Dec. 8. The BU sophomore covered the distance in 10:21.91 to finish just ahead of teammate Rachel Gibbs.

Sheena Taylor
Detroit
Fr., Twinsburg, Ohio
Taylor posted two career-high marks while competing at the Blue and Gold Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., on Dec. 7. In the weight throw, she placed fifth with a heave of 46-feet, 11 1/2-inches, which ranks as the 10th best mark in school history. She also picked up a sixth-place effort in the shot-put with a throw of 39-feet, 9 3/4-inches.

Pam Staton

Jr., Ingleside, Ill.
Staton won the mile run in a time of 5:10.12 while competing at the 2007 Redbird Open in Normal, Ill., on Dec. 8.

Emilie Marsicek
Valparaiso
Sr., Spalding, Mich.
Marsicek smashed the Crusader record in the shot put as she registered a mark of 46-feet, 4-inches to finish second and first among collegiate athletes while competing in the Redbird Open in Normal, Ill., on Dec. 8. The Valpo senior also placed 10th in the weight throw with a toss of 43-feet, 7-inches.
