ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Men’s Basketball Collegiate Officiating Consortium, LLC, representing the Big Ten Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), Mid-American Conference (MAC), Summit League and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, announced Wednesday that the Horizon League will join the Consortium, beginning with the 2016-17 season.

Current Consortium Assistant Director Mike Kitts, the recipient of the 2009 Naismith Award for Men’s College Basketball Official of the Year, will now monitor the Horizon League's officiating operations in addition to his current duties with the MAAC.

“We are pleased to be joining the Collegiate Officiating Consortium,” said Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone. “This new approach allows us to work with four outstanding Division I conference partners in a number of officiating areas. I hope our work together builds on the improvements we have made in our men’s basketball officiating program over the last several years.”

The Men’s Basketball Collegiate Officiating Consortium, LLC provides regional oversight of officiating operations in the Big Ten, Horizon League, MAC, MAAC, Summit League and Northern Sun. The organization will now serve 72 institutions in 18 states.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Horizon League into our Consortium and extremely appreciative of the opportunity to collaborate with their conference office and ten highly competitive programs,” said Consortium Executive Director and Big Ten Associate Commissioner Rick Boyages. “The addition of the Horizon League will help us further improve collegiate officiating performance, consistency and accountability.”
