INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State’s Cameron Morse averaged 34.5 points, including establishing a new UIC Pavilion scoring record and has been named Horizon League Player of the Week. UIC’s Dominique Matthews is the third Flames player to earn the league’s Freshman of the Week honor after averaging 20 points and 6.5 rebounds last week.

Morse notched his third 40-point game of the season as he set a UIC Pavilion record with 44 points on Feb. 9 and followed that up with 25 points at Valparaiso on Feb. 11.
At UIC, Morse tied his own career scoring high and set a career best with 18 made field goals, which also tied a Pavilion record. Morse also tied his 3-pointers made career best with six against the Flames. He added four 3-pointers against the Crusaders.
For the week, Morse averaged 34.5 point per game and shot 40 percent (10-of-25) from 3-point range and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the free throw line. Morse leads the Horizon League in scoring in league games with 23.7 points per game and second overall with 23.0 ppg.
The award is the first of the season for Morse and the second of his career (Jan. 4, 2016).

Freshman of the Week | Dominique Matthews | UIC | Guard | Chicago
Matthews scored a career-high 28 points and shot 65 percent from the field (11-of-17) in UIC’s win over Youngstown State on Feb. 9. He buried a career-high five 3-pointers on seven attempts from beyond the arc against the Penguins in his first start since Dec. 4. Matthews matched a season high with three assists against YSU, and a career high with seven rebounds.
In the weekend’s second game, the Chicagoan was one of three Flames in double figures with 12 points and he finished second on the squad with six rebounds and three assists against Cleveland State. He played a season-high 38 minutes for UIC Saturday.
This is Matthews’ first Freshman of the Week award and is the third different UIC player to earn the league’s weekly freshman honor (Marcus Ottey, Nov. 21; Godwin Boahen, Dec. 26).
This is the second time in league history that three different players from one team have earned Freshman of the Week honors during the same season (2014, Valparaiso: Alec Peters, Lexus Williams, Clay Yeo).
