Horizon League Moments: The Horizon League Network
Note: With the Horizon League celebrating the 10th anniversary of its name change, the League will be looking back at 10 significant moments from the last 10 years.
When often asked to cite the factors that helped the Horizon League grow into one of the top non-Power 6 basketball conferences in the country, Commissioner Jon LeCrone tabs the creation of the Horizon League Network as one of the top influences. Over the last six years, the growth of HLN has pushed the League to the forefront of content streaming in intercollegiate athletics.
With fans now watching across the globe, schools have a reach into the homes of prospective students and athletes that never before existed. As viewers from over 149 countries can attest, the Horizon League Network is a recognized leader in sports webcasting and content creation.
The Horizon League Network has steadily grown in its first six years of existence, as all 10 member insitutions have continued to add content throughout the sports season. Initially an outlet for streaming conference basketball games, HLN now carries League and non-conference action in men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, swimming and diving, baseball and softball. Additionally, highlight shows bring fans the action from track and field, cross country and golf.
Having now streamed more than 2,000 live events on HorizonLeague.com, HLN continues to take viewers inside the League, featuring student-athlete profiles, weekly highlights, comprehensive coverage of all 19 League sports and additional special programming.
HLN and HorizonLeague.com set record numbers for viewership in 2010-11, as over 354,000 unique visitors visited HorizonLeague.com and watched HLN coverage on the year. With the League's partnership with WebStream Productions, HLN content and quality continues to grow, as HLN will add more programming for the 2011-12 academic year.
