2012 Spring Academic All League Teams

INDIANAPOLIS -- 92 student-athletes were selected across eight sports based on their successes in competition and in the classroom, as the Horizon League announced its 2012 Spring Academic All-League Teams. Student-athlete nominees were voted upon by the League’s faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.

21 student-athletes were selected in men’s indoor track and field due to a tie in voting, while women’s indoor track and field had its required number of 19. Softball saw 14 student-athletes picked after a tie in its voting, while Baseball had 12 student-athletes picked. Men’s and women’s golf each had seven honorees, while men’s and women’s tennis each had six student-athletes tabbed.

Youngstown State led the 89 all-league honorees with 16 selections, followed by Detroit, who had 15 picks and Valparaiso who had 14. 10 Loyola student-athletes earned places on the teams, while Butler had nine and Valparaiso and UIC had eight student-athletes. Milwaukee had six selections, while Cleveland State and Wright State had five, and Green Bay rounded out the all-league teams with four picks.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
