INDIANAPOLIS - Milwaukee senior Tyler Bucholz, Valparaiso junior Jarrett Mickens, UWM senior Kelsey Conrad, and Youngstown State junior Danielle Curry have been named Horizon League Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the period of April 12-18.
Bucholz, a native of Crystal, Minn., receives the men's track honor after winning the 400 meter dash (47.09) on Saturday at the 52nd Annual Mt. Sac Relay in Walnut, Calif. His school record breaking time is good for 48th in the country and first in the League this season.
Mickens, a native of Aurora, Ill., picks up the men's field award after placing second in the triple jump (14.40 meters) and long jump (7.28 meters) on Saturday at the Dave Rankin Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Both marks were personal bests and good for second all-time in Valpo history. Mickens is now ranked first in the League in the long jump and second in the triple this year.
Conrad, a native of Robbinsdale, Ohio, garners the women's track honor after taking sixth in the 100 and 200 meters at the 52nd Annual Mt. Sac Relay, clocking in at 12.00 and 24.73, respectively. Her 100 clocking is the fastest time in the League this season.
Curry, a native of Thornville, Ohio, collects the women's field award after finishing second in the shot put (15.48 meters) and fifth in the discus (44.42) on Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships in Athens, Ohio. She is ranked 32nd in the country in the shot put.
Milwaukee returns to action on Thursday when it heads to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays, while Youngstown State heads to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Penn Relays. Valparaiso is set to travel to West Lafayette on Friday for the Purdue Outdoor Open.
