INDIANAPOLIS -- Continuing to set the bar in online streaming of intercollegiate athletics, the Horizon League Network and WebStream Sports have been nominated for a 2013 College Sports Media award, Sports Video Group (SVG) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced on Thursday.

Nominated among regional and local networks, WebStream’s production of the Horizon League men’s basketball tournament second round will compete against FOX Sports West/Prime Ticket and the Longhorn Network in the live game and event production category.

“The Horizon League has no better partner than WebStream Sports and we are delighted with this nomination that recognizes their continued excellence,” Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone said.

This is the second consecutive year that the Horizon League Network and WebStream Sports have been nominated in the category.

“WebStream is proud to partner with the Horizon League to deliver productions that exceed expectations in both quality and cost effectiveness,” said John Servizzi, WebStream CEO. “We are honored by the League’s confidence and continued aspirations for the Horizon League Network both in television and its digital platform.”

“The 2013 College Sports Media Awards is a testament to the ever growing investment in production at the networks and on campus,” says Tom Buffolano, chairman of the SVG College Sports Summit. “We have seen a significant increase in production from college students in particular, who have more hands-on opportunities that prepare them for the next level.  This bodes well for the growth of the industry as a whole.”

Representing a wide array of college athletic and academic departments, as well as professional networks, production companies, and student productions, the nominees are spread across four divisions in a total of 16 categories. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges and announced at a ceremony on May 29 at the SVG College Sports Summit in Atlanta.

In 2011-12, HLN and HorizonLeague.com experienced unprecedented growth as more than 300,000 unique visitors across 149 countries/territories watched HLN coverage. The network set a new single-day record for viewership, with over 27,500 viewers on Jan. 15, 2012.
