INDIANAPOLIS -- Continuing to set the bar in online streaming of intercollegiate athletics, the Horizon League Network and WebStream Sports have been nominated for a 2014 College Sports Media award, Sports Video Group (SVG) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced on Thursday.
The nomination marks the third straight year that WebStream Sports, in partnership with the Horizon League Network, has been recognized among the top regional productions in college athletics.
Nominated among regional and local networks, WebStream’s production of the Horizon League men’s basketball game between Cleveland State and Oakland on Feb. 6 garnered accolades. The production is nominated along with two productions apiece from FOX Sports South and the Longhorn Network.
“The Horizon League has no better partner than WebStream Sports and we are delighted with this nomination that recognizes their continued excellence,” Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone said. "To be nominated among networks with much higher budgets speaks to the capabilities of WebStream in delivering the best and most cost-effective productions in intercollegiate athletics."
“WebStream is proud of its continued parternship with the Horizon League as we strive exceed expectations in both quality and cost effectiveness,” said John Servizzi, WebStream CEO. “We are honored by the League’s confidence and continued aspirations for the Horizon League Network both in television and its digital platform.”
““I want to congratulate this year’s nominees in the 2014 College Sports Media Awards presented by SVG and NACDA,” says Tom Buffolano, Chairman of the College Sports Media Awards. “Each year we see an increase in the quality of production, across all Divisions and Categories. The growth in the number of submissions, especially in both Collegiate Divisions, bodes well not only in the short term for those institutions, but long term for the industry as a whole."
Representing a wide array of college athletic and academic departments, as well as professional networks, production companies, and student productions, the nominees are spread across four divisions in a total of 16 categories. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges and announced at a ceremony on May 29 at the SVG College Sports Summit in Atlanta.
In 2013-14, HLN and HorizonLeague.com have both experienced unprecedented growth, setting new visitor and viewership numbers through the first nine months of the athletics calendar year.
