Swimming & Diving Championships Central

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Two-time defending champion Oakland University is set to host the 2016 Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The competition will run Feb. 24-27 at the Oakland Aquatics Center.

All seven sessions of the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships will be carried on ESPN3.

In its third year of Horizon League membership, Oakland has continued its dominant run under head coach Pete Hovland, winning both the men’s and women’s championships in 2014 and 2015. A third straight title would make the Golden Grizzlies men’s team the first to win three consecutive championships since Milwaukee from 2010-12. The Oakland women are vying to become the first team to win three in a row since Green Bay won seven straight titles from 2005-11.

Entering the championships, Oakland owns the top League time in 14 events, including 11 individual events and three relays. Four League records have fallen prior to the championship: Philipp Sikatzki of Cleveland State swam the 100 butterfly in 46.93. The Cleveland State men also broke the 400 medley relay record, posting a 3:12.82.

On the women’s side, Oakland’s Holly Morren touched the wall in 49.85 in the 100 free to set a new League mark. The Oakland women also own the 400 free relay record, clocking in at 3:22.02 in December.

The meet will open with finals at 5:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Both the 200 yard medley and 800 free relays will be contested, along with men’s 3-meter diving prelims and finals.

Prelims will resume each day at 10 a.m. ET with finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m. each evening.
