Horizon League Softball kicks off 2010 season

The 2010 Horizon League softball season started off on the right track Friday with UIC posted a 2-0 record on the first day of collegiate action.

The Flames downed North Florida, 4-1, and trumped Southern Illinois, 9-1, in the Combat Classic in hosted by Florida International in Miami, Fla.

The Flames return to double-header action on Saturday while three other schools participating in early season tournaments as well.  Green Bay and Valparaiso will take part in the Northern Iowa Dome Invitational in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Wright State journeyed to Woodstock, Ga. to play in the KSU Classic.  All four teams will compete again on Sunday in their respective events.

The 2010 Horizon League Softball Championship will be hosted by the regular season championship on May 6-8 in a double elimination format.
