INDIANAPOLIS -- Punxsutawney Phil had better watch his back.

A lot of people are unhappy with the famous groundhog's apparently inaccurate prediction of an early spring, and now several of those malcontents are carrying softball bats as the Horizon League's opening weekend games have been postponed due to the unseasonably cold weather and unplayable field conditions.

With temperatures not expected to rise out of the 40s and snowfall forcasted throughout the Midwest late in the weekend, all four would-be conference-opening series have been postponed. Only one series has been rescheduled thus far: Wright State will now visit top-ranked Valparaiso for a single game on Monday, April 1, and a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1.

Meanwhile, the second-place Ramblers also had their home opener postponed this week. That game, against Purdue, has been rescheduled for April 9. Loyola's conference-opening series at Youngstown State has not been recheduled yet.

Also among the postponements, UIC was to be headed to Green Bay and Detroit was to visit third-ranked Cleveland State.
