Softball Player of the Week
TIFFANY PATTESON

Youngstown State junior Tiffany Patteson is the Horizon League Softball Player of the Week for the period ending March 28.
Patteson led the Penguins to a doubleheader split against Horizon League opponent Butler last week. Patteson went 4-of-6 on the day with two doubles and three RBI. In game one, Patteson went 2-for-3 with two singles; and in the night cap went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Patteson also finished the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
BRITTANY MCINTYRE
UIC, Junior, P, Orland Park, Ill.
UIC junior Brittany McIntyre is the Horizon League Softball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 28.
McIntyre stayed red-hot in the circle for the Flames last week, posting a 2-0 record with a save in three appearances with a 0.44 ERA. She allowed just one earned run in 16 innings of work while striking out nine. McIntyre opened the week with one of her best efforts of the season, tossing a one-hit shutout versus Charlotte. She allowed a leadoff single to the 49ers and then set down 21 of the next 22 batters she faced. McIntyre then tallied her first save of the year in the nightcap against Charlotte, tossing two innings in relief. The following day, McIntyre notched another shutout, this time blanking Elon on three hits while fanning four. For the season, McIntyre is now 8-7 with a 3.75 ERA.
Other Top Player Performances - March 28
Jenny Jacobs, Butler, Freshman, Outfield (Indianapolis, Ind.)
Jacobs hit two home runs and batted .385 last week, leading the Bulldogs to a pair of victories. Jacobs had five hits in 13 at-bats, including a double that started the Bulldogs' comeback in the team's 4-3 win over Youngstown State in the Horizon League opener. Jacobs added two solo homers in the team's four games and knocked in three runs. She also stole two bases. On the season, Jacobs is batting .311 with a team-leading three home runs and .600 slugging percentage.
Kristin Martin, Detroit, Junior, Outfield (Sterling Heights, Mich.)
Martin went 2-for-5 with a double in the Titans' double header at Purdue on March 26. She also scored two runs and made two putouts and had an assist.
Cameron Astiazaran, UIC, Senior, Outfield (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.)
Astiazaran helped UIC runs its winnings streak to 11 last week as she batted .500 (7-for-14) with two doubles, a triple and two RBI. She also walked two times, giving her a .563 on-base percentage. Astiazaran tallied a hit in all four games, including three multi-hit outings. She also pushed her season doubles total to 19 through the first 34 games, putting her just 10 two-baggers shy of the NCAA single-season record of 29. On Tuesday, Astiazaran led the Flames to a doubleheader sweep of Charlotte by going 4-for-7 with two RBI in the twinbill. The following day, she was 3-for-7 at the dish as UIC took two from host Elon. For the season, Astiazaran is now batting .447 with 19 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 21 RBI.
Mary Jane D'Arcy, Wright State, Junior, Outfield (Sacramento, CA)
D'Arcy recorded two hits in a 10-6 loss at Southeast Missouri State on March 22. The following day, she also had two hits in the first game against Southern Illinois. For the week, D'Arcy went 4-for-7 with a .571 batting average, while also scoring one run.
Other Top Pitching Performances - March 28
Jamie Wonderly, Butler, Sophomore, RH Pitcher (Helena, Ohio)
Wonderly went 1-0 with a 1.27 ERA in three appearances last week. She picked up the win in relief in the Bulldogs' come-from-behind 4-3 win over Youngstown State in the Horizon League opener, pitching two scoreless innings. In Thursday action, Wonderly pitched five shutout innings against IPFW, but her bullpen couldn't hold an early Butler lead and she took a no-decision. Wonderly came on in relief in the second game against Youngstown State and allowed two runs in four innings. She was forced to leave with two outs in the top of the sixth after taking a line drive off her pitching hand. On the year, Wonderly is 2-2 with a 4.13 ERA and two complete games.
Ashley Lockmiller, Youngstown State, Senior, Pitcher (Bradner, Ohio)
Lockmiller tossed a complete game and scattered 11 Butler hits in a 6-2 victory. She also struck out one and did not allow a walk. This is the second straight complete-game victory for Lockmiller and picked up her fourth win of the season, which is a career-best.
Horizon League News & Notes
Butler Bulldogs (10-9, 1-1 HL)
Butler went 2-for-2 last week as it split a pair of contests with IPFW on March 22 and Youngstown State on March 26. The Bulldogs blanked the Mastadons 8-0 before falling in the second game 5-3. In Saturday's League opener against the Penguins, Butler took game one 4-3 off a Maria Marchesano game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh inning. In game two, YSU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back as the Bulldogs dropped game two, 6-2. Butler is back in action on Tuesday, March 29 when it travels to Bradley for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m EST.
Cleveland State (2-13, 0-0 HL)
Cleveland State will take to the field for the first time in 10 days when the Vikings host Robert Morris in a home-opening doubleheader on Monday. The Vikings will play 14 of their 17 home games in a three-week stretch from March 28 to April 19.
Detroit Titans (4-7, 0-0 HL)
Sophomore Sarah Dickey has started every game of her career, giving her 61 straight games...With their games last week at Eastern Michigan snowed out, the Titans have lost five games to the weather so far this season after losing just one to Mother Nature last season...When Detroit and Loyola square off at Buysse Ballpark this weekend it will be a Portage Northern HS reunion when the Rambler's Keilah Williams and Detroit's Anna Ollgaard face each other. The pair won two Michigan High School State Championships together during their prep days.
UIC Flames (19-15, 0-0 HL)
UIC continued its hot streak last week as the Flames pushed their win-streak to 11 games. On March 22, UIC grabbed both games of the doubleheader with Charlotte, winning game one 5-0, before taking the finale 4-2. The next day against Elon, the Flames swept both contests, winning by margins of 3-0 and
6-5. UIC is back in action on March 30 when it travels to Indiana for a twinbill beginning at 3:00 p.m. EST.
Loyola Ramblers (7-11, 0-0 HL)
Loyola snapped a five-game losing skid by capturing a pair of games and the title, at the IU Classic on March 2. Senior shortstop Keilah Williams belted her second home run of the season, a walk-off blast, to lead Loyola to a 7-6 win over IPFW on March 20. The Ramblers are now 3-3 in one-run contests. Loyola is 5-0 when it scores four or more runs this season. The victory over Indiana was Loyola's first against a Big Ten Conference team since April 25, 2001 when it topped Illinois, 1-0. Loyola's doubleheader with Michigan State on March 26 was cancelled due to poor field conditions. Sophomore centerfielder Tara Miller has hit safely in each of the last three games, while senior 1B Allison Scanlin needs two RBI to move into a tie for fourth place on the Loyola all-time list as the left-handed hitter has driven in 70 runs in her career.
UW-Green Bay Phoenix (7-8, 0-0 HL)
With its 7-3 record at the Rebel Spring Games March 13-19, the Phoenix is now one win away from matching last season's win total. In 2004, UW-Green Bay posted an 8-29 record. The Phoenix will head to Cleveland this weekend to start its Horizon League slate, as UW-Green Bay will play a doubleheader with the Vikings Saturday, April 2 before a single game on Sunday, April 3. UW-Green Bay has found its niche as a rally team, as the Phoenix has tallied 26 of its 34 runs this season in the fourth inning and later. During the final four innings of games this season, the Phoenix is out-scoring its opponents 26-12.
Wright State Raiders (4-5, 0-0 HL)
Wright State dropped all three games on its road trip through Missouri and Illinois last week, with a doubleheader against #16 Missouri cancelled due to poor field conditions. Against Southeast Missouri, Dana Boehmer paced the Raider offense with a pinch-hit three-run double while Brandi Steiner, Stephanie Salas, Mary Jane D'Arcy and Brittany Riddle each had two hits. WSU opens the home portion of its schedule this week with doubleheaders against Dayton and Morehead State followed by the Horizon League opening series with Butler.
Youngstown State (10-10, 1-1 HL)
Freshman Sarah Conklin belted her first career home run with a two-run blast in the 4-3 loss to Butler on Saturday. Conklin batted .500 last week (3-for-6) with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Freshman Sarah Berry continued her torrid pace at the plate with a .500 batting average last week. Berry went 3-for-6 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Over the last four games, Berry his batting .500 (6-for-12) with a double, home run and three runs batted in. She has also scored five runs over the last four games. YSU is not faring well in one-run games. Half of YSU's games have been decided by one-run and the Penguins are currently 3-7 in those games.
