INDIANAPOLIS – Concluding its bi-annual Executive Council meetings, the Horizon League hosted its first Student-Athlete Development Forum on Thursday at the Hyatt Regency in Indianapolis.

The forum will open with remarks at 8 a.m. ET kicking off three separate sessions. Morning session presenters will include:
• Dr. Brian Hainline, Chief Medical Officer of the National Collegiate Athletic Association
• Dr. Michael Grandner, Director of Sleep and Health Research Program, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Medicine and Psychology at the University of Arizona
• Dr. Chris Carr, Sport and Performance Psychologist and Coordinator for Sport and Performance Psychology at St. Vincent Sports Performance
• Mary Wilfert, Associate Director of Prevention and Health Promotion, NCAA Sport Science Institute

Morning sessions will center around an overview of mental health best practices; sleep issues with an impact on performance; psychological health of the collegiate student-athlete; and sexual assault prevention.

Lunch will feature round-table discussions with leaders in areas of sports medicine, substance abuse and sports psychology. Topics are scheduled to include eating disorders, patient-centered care, team communications with physicians, trainers and strength and conditioning personnel, transitioning from student-athlete to post-graduation life, and prescription drug abuse.

• Allison Newlin, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Supervisor, Wright State University
• Dr. Barbara Meyer, Professor, Integrative Health Care & Performance (Sport Psychology), Director, Laboratory for Sport Psychology & Performance Excellence, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
• Dr. Jeremy Metzler, Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician, Medical Director of Sports Medicine – Prevea Health, University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, and St. Norbert College, Medical Advisor for Ashwaubenon School District and Green Bay School District
• Dr. Chad Zehms, Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon, Prevea Health
• Ralph Reiff, Executive Director, St. Vincent Sports Performance
•Dr. Benjamin Anderson, Director of Health, Counseling, and Student Wellness, Northern Kentucky University

The afternoon session will include:
• Dr. Tom McAllister, Albert E. Sterne Professor and Chair, Department of Psychiatry, Indiana University School of Medicine
• Dr. Michael Emery, Medical Director, The Center for Cardiovascular Care in Athletics, Indiana University Health, Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, Krannert Institute of Cardiology, Indiana University School of Medicine
• Dr. Karen Roos, Post-Doctoral Fellow, Datalys Center for Sports Injury Research and Prevention
