Horizon League Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

 

 

Blake Booher

UIC, Sophomore, Barrington, Ill. 

 

Blake Booher of UIC has been selected the Horizon League Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Jan. 11.

 

Booher resumed his trek to smash the eight-year old 50 free school record of 20.73 with another sub 21-second performance in the event, his second of the year. Booher swam a 20.82 at Valparaiso to establish a new career-best mark. The second-year star also swam well as the last leg of the top-performing 200 free relay.

Raj Duggal

Butler, Sophomore, Columbus, Ind.

Duggal paced the Butler swimmers at the University of Indianapolis Invitational with third-place finishes in both the 1650-yard freestyle (16:40.52) and 500-yard freestyle (4:49.15) and fourth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:22.04).

 

Luke Wilkens

Cleveland State, Senior, Bloemfontein, South Africa

Wilkens picked up a pair of wins for the men's team at the Florida International Golden Panther Invitational on Jan. 9. He finished with swimming top times in the 200 freestyle (1:47.40) and in the 100 fly (52.26) to lead the Vikings to a first-place finish among four teams.

 

Kyle Fyock

UW-Milwaukee, Junior, Mequon, Wis.

Fyock helped the Panthers to a win over Boston University at the Bob Mowerson Meet on Jan. 6. In his only race, he won the 50-meter breaststroke in 32.75, topping all divisions competing at the meet.

 

Scott Lang

Wright State, Freshman, Inner Grove Heights, Minn.

Lang won two events in a loss to The Ohio State University on Friday night.  Lang was first in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle races with times of 4:44.43 and 9:41.75, respectively.  The Raider loss breaks a 15 consecutive duel meet winning streak by the men.

Horizon League Female Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

 

Colleen Dougherty

UIC, Freshman, Woodstock, Ill.

 

Colleen Dougherty of UIC has been selected the Horizon League Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Jan. 11.

 

The freshman sprint-free specialist continued her spectacular rookie campaign with an impressive 100 free win and two strong relay performances. Dougherty chalked up her fifth 100 free win in six attempts, cruising to victory with a 54.55, while helping the 200-yard medley relay team take victory and the 200-yard freestyle relay post the event's top time in an exhibition swim.

Mary Beth Arnold

Butler, Sophomore, Indianapolis, Ind.

Arnold won the 100-yard breaststroke over the weekend, leading the Butler effort at the University of Indianapolis Invitational, held Friday and Saturday (Jan. 7-8). Arnold's winning time of 1:08.11 was the Bulldogs' best result of the meet, which featured five teams on the women's side. Arnold also placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke, getting to the wall in 2:26.99.

 

Marianne Lionell

Cleveland State, Sophomore, Sodertalje, Sweden

Lionell won the only individual event for the women at the Florida International Golden Panther Invitational on Jan. 9. She swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.98, while helping the 200 medley relay team to a top time of 1:53.40.

 

Julie Olsen

UW-Milwaukee, Junior, Hastings, Minn.

Competing in her first meet of the season, Olson won her only event to lead the Panthers to a second-place showing at the Bob Mowerson Meet on Jan. 6. In the 200-meter individual medley, she scored a first-place finish, touching the wall in 2:36.59.
