Horizon League Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

 

Jon Schubbe

UW-Green Bay, Junior, Afton, Minn.

 

Jon Schubbe of UW-Green Bay has been selected the Horizon League Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Jan. 18.

 

Schubbe completed the freestyle distance sweep on Saturday at UIC, touching first in the 1000 freestyle in 9:54.36 and following up with a 500 freestyle win in 4:45.29. A day later, at Butler, Schubbe won the 200 freestyle in 1:47.51.

Dave Duecker

Cleveland State, Freshman, Ceadarburg, Wis.

Duecker swam to a win in the 200 breaststroke against Xavier and Duquesne (Jan. 15), completing the trip in 2:09.62.  He also anchored the breaststroke portion of the first-place 400 medley relay team and finished second in the 200 IM (1:57.82).

 

Blake Booher

UIC, Sophomore, Barrington, Ill.

For the second straight week, Booher was unstoppable in the sprint-freestyle events. Against UW-Green Bay this past Saturday, he snatched the 50 free in 21.17, then went on to take the 100 freestyle in 47.33. Booher then went on to finish off a season-best 400-yard freestyle relay with a 46.47 split that propelled UIC to a 3:07.27.

 

Chase Gravengood

UW-Milwaukee, Freshman, Oconomowoc, Wis.

Gravengood won two events to lead the Panthers to a dual meet victory over Valparaiso. He topped the field in the 200 butterfly with a time 2:01.23 and swam to a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.16.

Horizon League Female Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

 

Kirsty McKechnie

Cleveland State, Junior, Durban, South Africa

 

Kirsty McKechnie of Cleveland State has been selected the Horizon League Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Jan. 18.

 

In a Quad Meet with Duquesne, Xavier and St. Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 15, McKechnie broke the school record in the 1,000 freestyle by nearly five seconds, swimming the trip in 10:27.29 for the win.  She also finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:08.52) and second in the 200 fly (2:12.03).

Molly Cox

UW-Green Bay, Sophomore, Berlin, Wis.

Cox won the 1000 freestyle in 10:34.49 at Butler on Jan. 14. The next day against UIC, Cox repeated in the 1000 freestyle, winning in 10:34.46 and added a win in the 500 freestyle in 5:10.73.

 

Kelly Hyatt

UIC, Sophomore, Shakopee, Minn.

A second-year sprint phenom, Hyatt had a strong two-meet showing this past weekend. Against Illinois State on Jan. 14, Hyatt swam strong in both the 50 free (25.42) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.20) before leading off a victorious 400 freestyle relay squad that raced to a 3:38.24, thanks to a 54.45 100 free leadoff split from the Minnesota native. Hyatt turned it up a notch the next day against UW-Green Bay, winning the 50 free in 25.07 and the 100 free in a season-best 53.85 while going on to lead the 400 free relay team to a 2005 top time of 3:37.66. 

 

Lindsay Caldwell

UW-Milwaukee, Sophomore, West Bend, Wis.

Caldwell picked up a pair of victories to lead the Panthers to a dual meet victory at Valparaiso. In her first collegiate attempt at the 200 IM, Caldwell posted a time of 2:11.49 for the win and to put herself fourth in the league top times and first on the UWM squad. She also added a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:26.94.

 

Brittany Senn

Youngstown State, Freshman, Hinckley, Ohio

Senn won the 50 free with a personal-best time of 25.51 and added a second-place finish in the 100 free with a personal-best time of 55.66 against Akron on Monday. She now ranks fourth all-time in school history in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 free.
