Horizon League Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

 

Thatcher Carr

Cleveland State, Senior, Russell, Ohio

 

Thatcher Carr of Cleveland State has been selected the Horizon League Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Jan. 25.

 

One week after breaking the Busbey Natatorium one-meter record, Carr set the Nixon Aquatic Center three-meter record at Miami (Ohio) on Jan. 22, scoring a 339.90, topping the previous mark of 326.10.  He also finished first in the one-meter diving, scoring a 330.07.

Raj Duggal

Butler, Sophomore, Columbus, Ind.

Duggal highlighted Butler's performance at the Bill Ritter Invitational over the weekend, winning the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:31.57. Duggal also placed third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:49.62.

 

Blake Booher

UIC, Sophomore, Barrington, Ill.

Booher continued his outstanding swimming this past weekend at the Bill Ritter Invitational, winning both the 50 freestyle (21.39) and the 100 freestyle (47.14) while finishing off UIC victories in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, including a season-best 1:24.38 in the 200. Booher also helped the men take second in both medley relays while finishing fifth in a crowded 200 freestyle field with a season-best 1:47.73.  

 

Michael Belting

UW-Milwaukee, Senior, Owantonna, Minn.

Belting helped the Panthers to a third-place showing at the Bill Ritter Invitational, winning an event and finishing among the top three in two others. On the meet's first day, he topped the field of the 500 free with his time of 4:44.19. He came back on day two to take second in the 1650 free and third in the 200 free. He posted times of 16:36.44 and 1:46.81 in the events for Milwaukee.

 

Joe Valen

UW-Green Bay, Junior, Wind Lake, Wis.

Valen earned a tough double at UWM's Bill Ritter Invite, winning the 200 individual medley (1:57.97) and the 400 individual medley (4:13.23). Valen's performance helped boost the Phoenix to the team title at UWM's Bill Ritter Invite which included league foes Butler, UIC and the host Panthers.

 

Elvis Cirikovic

Wright State, Junior, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Cirikovic won two events versus Louisville and was a part of the final 400-yard freestyle relay that won the meet for the Raiders.  He won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle with times of 21.20 and 46.80 with a time of 3:07.25 in the relay.

Molly Cox

UW-Green Bay, Sophomore. Berlin, Wis.

 

Molly Cox of UW-Green Bay has been selected the Horizon League Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Jan. 25.

 

Sophomore Molly Cox continued her strong season in the distance events with individual wins in the 500 freestyle (5:08.90) and the 1650 freestyle (17:47.40). Cox's performance helped boost the Phoenix to the team title at UWM's Bill Ritter Invite which included league foes Butler, UIC and the host Panthers.

Mary Beth Arnold

Butler, Sophomore, Indianapolis, Ind.

Arnold turned in a top-five performance in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Bill Ritter Invitational over the weekend, covering the distance in 1:09.27 for fourth. She placed sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke.

 

Kelly Hyatt

UIC, Sophomore, Shakopee, Minn.

Continuing to swim her best as the season comes to a close, Hyatt won the 100 free in 54.14 at the Bill Ritter Invitational while turning in a season-best 24.99 in the 50 freestyle en route to second place. Hyatt was a critical component at the leadoff spot in UIC wins in the 200 freestyle relay (with a season-best 1:39.74) and the 400 freestyle relay. 

 

Julie Olsen

UW-Milwaukee, Junior, Hastings, Minn.

Olsen won two events at the Bill Ritter Invitational and took third place in another, to lead the Panthers to a third-place finish. Set a pool record in winning the 200 backstroke with her time of 2:08.18. Olson completed the backstroke sweep with top honors in the 100 back, touching the wall in 59.65. Also finished third in the 100 butterfly with her time of 1:00.60.

 

Amy Cron

Wright State, Junior, St. Mary's, Ohio

Cron won the 200-yard backstroke against the Louisville Cardinals on Friday with a time of 2:09.73.

 

Jordan Dunn

Youngstown State, Senior, Boardman, Ohio

Dunn won two events in YSU's 129-68 win over St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday. She swam a season-best time of 5:23.47 in the 500 free to top the field and set a pool record in the 1,650 free with a first-place time of 18:38.40.
