Horizon League Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week



Bjorn Schantz

Cleveland State, Sophomore, Loddekopinge, Sweden



Bjorn Schantz of Cleveland State has been selected the Horizon League Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Feb. 1.



Schantz swam to a Horizon League top time in the 1,000 free against Notre Dame and Canisius, finishing second in 9:23.10, and helped the 400 free relay team to a win, swimming the second 100-yard leg in 46.64. He then tallied a pair of wins the next day against Valparaiso, swimming to top times in the 400 IM (4:09.62) and 200 fly (1:56.99).

Amy Christopherson

UW-Green Bay, Senior, Kiel, Wis.

Amy Christopherson of UW-Green Bay has been selected the Horizon League Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Feb. 1.



Christopherson set two Phoenix Sports Center pool records in the 100 breast (1:06.02) and the 200 breast (2:20.59), which is only .2 off the league record, this past weekend in dual meets against Western Illinois and Illinois State.

Joey Weber

UW-Green Bay, Sophomore, Eden Prairie, Minn.

Weber posted two quality swims against Western Illinois, winning in the 50 freestyle (21.69) and the 200 backstroke (1:53.95).



Jeff Jasinowski

UW-Milwaukee, Junior, Bayside, Wis.

Jasinowski swept the diving events in UWM's dual meet victory over Western Illinois on Saturday. In the one meter event, he reached his zone qualifier with his score of 320.92, topping his previous best by almost 25 points. He also won from the three-meter board, notching 255.53 points.



Rafael Candido

Wright State, Junior, Recife, Brazil

Candido won three events over the weekend against Wittenberg and Cincinnati. He won the 100 and 200-yard freestyle against Wittenberg with times of 47.65 and 1:43.74. He took first in the 100 breaststroke in 57.93 as the Raiders pulled off easy victories over the Tigers and Bearcats.

Deanna Raedel

Cleveland State, Freshman, Middleburg Heights, Ohio

Raedell helped the Vikings to a victory over Valparaiso by winning both the 50 freestyle (25.14) and the 100 free (55.07). She also anchored the first-place 200 medley relay team, swimming the 50 free leg in 25.11.



Cathy Honeyager

UW-Milwaukee, Senior, Plymouth, Wis.

Honeyager, one of two Panther seniors, celebrated Senior Day with wins in the 500 and 1000 free during UWM's dual meet victory over Western Illinois. In the 500 free, she touched the wall in 5:21.32 for the win. She also paced the 1000 free with her time of 10:52.59.



Svetlana Nepocatych

Wright State, Sophomore, Kaunas, Lithuania

Nepocatych won two events over the weekend as the Raiders swept Wittenberg and Cincinnati. Nepocatych won the 200-yard freestyle on Friday in 2:00.51 then won the 50 free on Saturday in 25.42.



Katy Malys

Youngstown State, Senior, Boardman, Ohio

Malys won the 50-yard freestyle and was part of two winning relays in a meet with the Denison Big Red on Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Natatorium. Malys swam a lifetime-best time of 25.66 in the 50 for the win and added a lifetime-best of 55.65 in the 100 free to place second. She also out-touched Denison's Lisa Fry by .01 seconds as the anchor of YSU's winning 200 medley relay and led off the winning 200 freestyle relay. She now ranks fifth in school history in the 50 free and ninth in the 100 free.
