Horizon League Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

 

Pieter Pelser

Cleveland State, Junior, Krugersdorp, South Africa

Pieter Pelser of Cleveland State has been selected the Horizon League Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Dec. 7.

 

Pelser set two Cleveland State records for both the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke at the Miami Invitational over the weekend.  He led off the first-place 400 medley relay with a 100 backstroke time of 49.71 and cruised to first place in the 200 back in a school- and meet-record time of 1:47.84. He also took first in the 100 backstroke in 49.88, a time that would have also set the previous school mark if not for his relay time, becoming the only swimmer in CSU history to swim the event in under 50 seconds. Additionally, Pelser tied the season-best league mark in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.57.

Samantha Jones

Cleveland State, Senior, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa

Samantha Jones of Cleveland State has been selected the Horizon League Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for Dec. 7.

 

Jones set four Horizon League season-best times in winning a pair of events at the Miami Invitational.  She won the 100 backstroke in a league-best 57.60, improving on the previous top time by a full second (58.60) and won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:04.20.  Jones added league-bests in the 200 IM prelims (2:09.90) and 100 butterfly prelims (58.61) in addition to helping the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay and 400 medley relay teams to league season-best times.

Jason Brozek

Butler, Sophomore, Great Bend Kansas

Sophomore Jason Brozek won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.53 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.31 in Sunday's dual meet against Eastern Illinois.

 

Joey Weber

UW-Green Bay, Sophomore, Eden Prairie, Minn.

Weber reached the finals in two events at the ultra-competitive Notre Dame invite. He placed third in the 100 backstroke in 51.53.

 

Chase Gravengood

UW-Milwaukee, Freshman, Oconomowoc, Wis.

On the second day of the Wheaton Invitational, Gravengood broke a school and freshman record in the 400 IM, taking second in 4:05.55. On the first day he had won the 200 fly in 1:53.36 and taken second in the 200 IM with a time (1:55.82). Gravengood's efforts helped the Panthers to a second-place finish at the meet.

Jesse Levknecht

Butler, Senior, Ada, Mich.

Senior Jesse Levknecht earned wins in the 100-yd. backstroke (1:02.71), 200-yard butterfly (2:17.72) and 100-yard butterfly (1:02.05) in Sunday's dual meet against Eastern Illinois. She was also a part of Butler's winning 200-yard medley relay.

 

Amy Christopherson

UW-Green Bay, Senior, Kiel, Wis.

Christopherson swam a lifetime best in the 100 breaststroke at the Notre Dame invite.

                                                               

Lindsay Caldwell

UW-Milwaukee, Sophomore, West Bend, Wis.

On the first day of the Wheaton Invitational, Caldwell reset three school, two pool and two meet records in the first 75 minutes. She opened the meet with a school, meet and pool-record time of 23.93 over the first 50 meters of the 200 free relay. She came back to once again break a school, meet and pool mark with her first-place finish in the 100 breast (1:04.69). Caldwell capped her evening with a record-time of 52.05 in winning the 100 free. She came back on day two to win the 200 breast (2:22.39) and help the Panthers to a second-place finish at the meet.
