Horizon League Tennis Players of the Week (April 11)

INDIANAPOLIS -- Northern Kentucky's Margita Sunjic kept her singles record unblemished in league play winning both matches in straight sets to earn Women's Singles Player of the Week. On the men's side, Valparaiso's Jeffrey Schorsch took care of business with two straight set wins on the weekend to earn Men's Singles Player of the Week.

SINGLES

Jeffrey Schorsch / Valparaiso / Senior / Perrysburg, Ohio

Schorsch extended his undefeated play in conference play going 2-0 against Northern Kentucky and Wright State as the Valparaiso’s top singles player. The senior won both matches in straight sets improving to 17-1 on the season and 5-0 in league play. Schorsch has 107 career singles wins which is the most in Valparaiso history earning his fourth career Player of the Week honor on the season.

Margita Sunjic / Northern Kentucky / Freshman / Sneit, Croatia

Sunjic earned Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row after going 2-0 on the week extending her straight-set match winning streak to seven matches. The freshman defeated Valparaiso’s  and UIC’s top singles players and the Norse picked up a home victory over the Crusaders. Sunjic is a perfect 6-0 in conference play and is 11-2 overall on the season playing as Northern Kentucky’s No. 1 player.

DOUBLES

Jeffrey Schorsch and Charlie Emhardt / Valparaiso

Schorsch and Emhardt defeated Wright State’s top doubles team 6-2 as Valparaiso earned the doubles point and the match victory 6-1. The duo is currently ranked No. 18 in the nation according to the ITA rankings and has been instrumental in Valparaiso remaining undefeated in league play.

Ana Stroe and Noelly Longi Nsimba / Youngstown State

Stroe and Nsimba clinched the doubles point in both of Youngstown State’s matches on the weekend. Playing as the Penguins top doubles team, the pair defeated Detroit Mercy, 6-1 and Oakland, 6-2 helping the team record two wins on the week to improve to 5-1 in Horizon League play.
