INDIANAPOLIS -- A pair of freshman won Player of the Week honors with Margita Sunjic winning three matches in straight-set fashion for Northern Kentucky and Danylo Veremeichuk of Youngstown State receiving the honor after being called up to the No. 2 spot and reeling off two wins. This is the first Player of the Week award for each player on the season.

SINGLES

Margita Sunjic / Northern Kentucky / Freshman / Sneit, Croatia

Sunjic went 3-0 on the week and is currently on a five-match winning streak playing in the No. 1 singles spot. The freshman won all of her matches in the straight sets starting out the week with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Rhode Island. The phenom then won against Cleveland State and Youngstown State to push her record to 4-0 in conference play and 9-2 overall on the year.

Danylo Veremeichuk / Youngstown State / Freshman / Odessa, Ukraine

Veremeichuk moved up to No. 2 in the singles lineup and notched two straight set victories against Wright State and Northern Kentucky. The freshman’s play helped Youngstown State pick up two wins and improve to 3-1 in conference play on the season. Veremeichuck has an 8-2 record on the season and has been instrumental for the Penguins tying their school record with 15 dual match wins.

DOUBLES

Victoria Bensimon and Jana Schober / Cleveland State

Bensimon and Schober went 2-0 as Cleveland State’s top doubles team helping the team clinch both doubles points on the week. The pair’s two wins were crucial as the team beat both Northern Kentucky and Wright State 4-3 to stay a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

Mitch Maroscher and Thomas Rodrigues / Youngstown State

Maroscher and Rodrigues took care of business winning both doubles matches 6-1 against Wright State and Northern Kentucky. The No. 1 doubles team for Youngstown State helped the squad earn the doubles point in both matches and helped the team go 2-0 on the week. Youngstown State now has 15 dual wins on the season which ties a school record and the Penguins still have four matches to play in the regular season.
