INDIANAPOLIS - Twenty-five Horizon League student-athletes will compete at the 2011 East and West Outdoor NCAA Preliminary Regional Rounds, May 26-28. A total of 15 student-athletes from Butler, Detroit, Valparaiso, Wright State, and Youngstown State will compete at Indiana University, the host of the East Regional, while Loyola, Milwaukee, and UIC will compete at the University of Oregon, the West Regional host.
Butler leads the League with nine qualifiers, including Kris Gauson, the top seed in the 1,500 meter run in the East Region. Youngstown State has three qualifiers and Valparaiso, Wright State and Detroit each have one representative competing at the East Regional. Six participants qualified from Milwaukee, Loyola is represented with three student-athletes and one member from UIC will compete at the West Regional.
Twelve competitors in each event at the East and West Preliminary Regional’s will advance to the national semifinal and final rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, hosted by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, June 8-11.
