Horizon League Women's Basketball Conference Schedule Announced
INDIANAPOLIS -- The 10-week Horizon League women’s basketball regular season is set to begin on Saturday, November 28, the conference office announced on Friday.
Over the course of the 10 weeks, each of the 10 programs will play twice with the 18-game conference season culminating on Sunday, March 6.
Youngstown State travels to Oakland to kick-off the schedule on November 28 while Northern Kentucky makes its debut to the League on December 30 hosting the Crusaders at the BB&T arena.
Green Bay, the defending Horizon League regular season and tournament champions, faces off with conference runner-up Wright State at the Nutter Center on January 23 and will welcome the Raiders to the Kress Events Center on February 25. The two squads went into overtime in last year’s Championship final with the Phoenix grabbing the eventual 86-77 victory and 13th tournament title in school history.
In addition to Green Bay, three other teams in the League participated in post-season play in 2015. Wright State, Youngstown State and Cleveland State tabbed spots in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament to mark the most-ever invited by the conference.
Youngstown State and Cleveland State resume its Northeast Ohio rivalry at the Wolstein Center on January 16 with the Penguins hosting the final match up on February 20. The two teams split their contest last season, each winning on their home floor.
The Metro Series between Oakland and Detroit is in its second year of implementation since the schools branded the rivalry. Detroit hosts Oakland on January 23 with the series concluding at the O’Rena on February 27.
The 2016 Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship will take place in Green Bay, Wis. at the Kress Events Center and will include all ten teams in a four-day format beginning March 10. All rounds of the Championship will be streamed on ESPN3 with the championship airing on ESPNU March 13 at 1 p.m. ET.
