The Horizon League, along with the generous support of its member institutions, recently organized a community service event to raise money for "Susan G. Komen For The Cure."  During all rounds of the Horizon League Women's Basketball tournament, $1 of each adult ticket sold was donated to the fundraiser.  There were also tables set up at each of the following tournament sites, Butler, UIC, Loyola, UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee for the fans to also make donations.

A presentation was made during halftime of the League Championship game between UW-Green Bay and Butler as Alfreeda Goff, the Horizon League's Sr. Associate Commissioner, announced that the event had raised over $5,000.

Goff labeled the event as a success.  "I was very appreciative of the support we received from our institutions and their fans for our community service project," Goff noted.  "Several staff members or their family members at Horizon League institutions have been diagnosed with breast cancer so the timing for us to work to support cancer research was now.  We chose our women's basketball tournament for the community service project as it is our largest women's League championship in regards to fan attendance and we wanted to reach out to as many people as possible."

"Susan G. Komen For The Cure" is the world's largest network of breast cancer survivors and activists.  The organization has invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill their goal of becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
