INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Cleveland State sophomore guard Kailey Klein was tabbed Horizon League women's basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week this season after she helped the Vikings to a pair of road League wins over Butler and Valparaiso. In two games this past week, Klein averaged 28.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.

Kailey Klein receives her second straight Player of the Week award and her third of the season after she helped the Vikings to a pair of road League wins this past week. In two games, Klein averaged 28.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, while shooting 65 percent from the field. The CSU sophomore began the week with a 24-point, six-rebound, six-assist effort in a 65-61 win at Butler on Thursday. Klein followed that effort by tying her career-high with 33 points in Saturday's 86-63 win at Valparaiso. She also chipped in five rebounds and four assists. Klein leads the League in scoring with 19.0 points per game.

Lade Akande, Butler
Jr. * C * Robinson, Ill.
Akande averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in two games this past week. She tallied a team-high 21 points against Cleveland State on Thursday, going 8-of-14 from the field, while pulling in a team-best 12 rebounds. She also added three blocked shots and forced a pair of steals. Two days later against Youngstown State, Akande finished led all scorers with 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting.
Gabi Hungerford, Detroit

Hungerford paced the Titans on the week as she averaged a team-best 11.0 points per game as well as 6.0 rebounds per contest. The UDM freshman began the week as she tied for a team-high six boards against Loyola on Thursday. She then followed that performance with a game-high 16 points against UIC on Saturday.
Lavesa Glover, Green Bay
Jr. * C * Miami, Fla.
In her only game of the week, Glover helped the Phoenix maintain its lead in the Horizon League race with its victory at Milwaukee on Saturday. The junior center led the team with 18 points and also played a key role in holding the League's preseason player of the year Traci Edwards, to under double figures in scoring for the first time in 42 outings.
Elyse VanBogaert, Loyola

VanBogaert averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting just under 58 percent from the floor as Loyola split a pair of games last week. VanBogaert opened the week strong, posting team-highs of 16 points and eight rebounds as the Ramblers sprinted to a win over Detroit. She then followed that performance by scoring 17 of Loyola's 49 points in Saturday's loss to Wright State.
Lindsay Laur, Milwaukee

In her lone game of the week, Laur scored a career-high 20 points in 24 minutes of play on Saturday against Green Bay. The UW freshman connected on 8-of-13 shooting including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Laur also added two steals and a block
Briana Hinkle, UIC

Hinkle averaged 11.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals in two League victories last week. The sophomore guard began the week by going 7-for-15 from the field, as she totaled a team-best 18 points in a 63-60 win over Wright State on Thursday. Hinkle then totaled a team and career-high eight assists in a 30-point win over Detroit on Saturday.
Shey Peddy, Wright State

In two games this past week, Peddy averaged 18.5 points per game. The freshman guard scored 19 points against UIC on Thursday on 8-of-11 shooting from the field shots from the field. Peddy then followed that performance with an 18-point output against Loyola on Saturday. Five of Peddy's points came in the final minute to help WSU secure a win over the Ramblers.
Tiara Scott, Youngstown State

Scott averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 58.3 percent from the field. Against Valparaiso on Thursday, the junior scored 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and grabbed nine boards. Scott concluded the week against Butler on Saturday as she led the Penguins with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
News From Around the League
Butler
The Bulldogs (14-6 overall, 4-5 Horizon League) split a pair of League home games this past week. On Thursday, Butler dropped a 65-61 decision to Cleveland State, but rebounded with a 63-48 win over Youngstown State on Saturday.
Junior forward Tara Miller continues to lead the Horizon League and all of Division I with a 3.53 assists-to-turnovers ratio (67 assists, 19 turnovers). She has been atop the NCAA list since Jan. 14.
Sophomore forward Susan Lester notched her fifth and sixth double-doubles of the season last weekend. She netted 13 points and 11 rebounds against Cleveland State on Thursday before duplicating the effort against Youngstown State with 13 points and a team-high 11 boards.
The Butler defense got back on track on Saturday against Youngstown State. The Bulldogs, who currently lead the Horizon League with 60.4 points allowed per game, had held only one of their previous five opponents to under 65 points before yielding just 48 points to the Penguins.
The Bulldogs' victory Saturday snapped a brief two-game losing skid for the team. Butler has lost back-to-back games only one other time this season and has not lost more consecutive games since dropping four in a row in December of 2006.
Butler returns to action on Thursday as it welcomes UIC to Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs conclude the week on Saturday against Loyola.
Cleveland State
The Vikings (13-7 overall, 7-2 Horizon League) won a pair of road games this past week as they defeated Butler 65-61 on Thursday and Valparaiso 92-79 on Saturday.
Cleveland State's sweep of Butler and Valparaiso last week extended the Vikings winning streak to five, the second such run for the Vikings this season.
The Vikings' victory at Butler on Thursday snapped a five-game losing streak in Hinkle Fieldhouse. CSU's last triumph at Butler came back on Feb. 2, 2002.
CSU's 86 points on Saturday against Valparaiso were a season-high. The Vikings shot 57.1 percent (32-56) from the field, which was the second-best in program history, topped only by a .627 (32-51) shooting performance at Niagara on Jan. 21, 1980.
In addition, CSU knocked down all 14 of its free throws on Saturday at Valparaiso, the second best effort from the line in school-history. Against Milwaukee on Feb. 4, 1995 the Vikings hit 15-of-15.
The Vikings have won 13 games this season, the most since the 2000-01 team won 14. In addition, CSU has posted seven League victories, tied for the third most in school-history. It is the second most Horizon League wins, topped only by the 2003-04 team that won nine.
CSU returns to the court on Thursday against Milwaukee. The Vikings will then conclude the week as they welcome Green Bay.
Detroit
The Titans (3-17 overall, 0-9 Horizon League) faltered in both games this past week as they dropped a 79-70 decision at Loyola on Thursday and then fell 66-36 at UIC on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Chanica Hall led all scorers against Loyola with 18 points after shooting 7-of-15 from the field. Junior guard Zemora Davis scored a team second-best 12 points against the Ramblers and tied for a team-high six boards with freshman Gabi Hungerford. Hall also matched her career-high of seven assists on Thursday
Hungerford started her fourth game of the season on Saturday against UIC and ended with a game-high 16 points after shooting 50 percent on the day, including a 4-of-8 showing from beyond the arc. The Wisconsin native also grabbed a team-high six boards against the Flames on Saturday.
Hungerford led the Titans in scoring for the week with an 11.0 points per game average, as well as a team-best 6.0 rebounds per contest.
The Titans return to action on Saturday as they travel to Wright State in their lone game of the week.
Green Bay
The Phoenix (16-4 overall, 8-1 Horizon League) downed Milwaukee 79-64 on the road in their lone game of the week.
The Green Bay women's basketball team held Milwaukee's Traci Edwards, who had 41 straight games in double figures heading into Saturday, to just two field goal attempts and five points in 18 minutes. The Phoenix also out-rebounded the League's top rebounding team by a 35-26 margin.
Offensively, Green Bay's five starters all scored in double figures for the second straight outing, led by junior center Lavesa Glover's 18 points. Junior guard Rachel Porath added 17 points and a game-high four steals while senior guard Kayla Groh had an all-around effort of 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Junior guard Kati Harty and junior forward Erin Templin rounded out the team's double-figure scorers with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Green Bay has an RPI of 62 with a strength of schedule at 151.
Green Bay heads to Ohio this week for a pair of contests, starting Thursday with Youngstown State and Cleveland State on Saturday.
Loyola
The Ramblers (4-16 overall, 2-7 Horizon League) went 1-1 this past week at home as they defeated Detroit 79-70 on Thursday and lost to Wright State 56-49.
After tying a season high with 79 points in the win over Detroit on Thursday night, Loyola came within two points of tying its season low with 49 points against Wright State. Despite the lack of offense, the Ramblers still had a chance to win as the game was tied at 49 heading into the final minute.
Loyola had four players score in double figures against Detroit, which is the fourth time this year they have done it but it was the first time it has translated into a win.
Sophomore point guard Keisha Collins scored 13 points against Detroit on Thursday and finished the week with 10 points against Wright State. Collins has scored in double figures in six straight games
After hitting just one three-pointer all season, freshman forward Brittany Boeke buried three shots from downtown in the Ramblers' win over Detroit. Boeke averaged 11.5 points per game for the week including a career-best 15-point performance against the Titans.
Loyola will make its Indiana swing this week as it heads to Valparaiso on Thursday and Butler on Saturday.
Milwaukee
The Panthers (11-9 overall, 6-3 Horizon League) dropped a 79-64 decision at home to instate rival Green Bay on Saturday.
Junior center Traci Edwards was held to just five points and one rebound in 18 minutes versus Green Bay. The last time she did not score in double figures was Nov. 25, 2006 at SMU (seven points). It was just her sixth career single-digit scoring game. Her one rebound was also a career low. Her previous low was two in her first collegiate game Nov. 11, 2005. Lastly, her 18 minutes were the fewest played since playing 15 at Iowa State Dec. 7, 2006. She has now played less than 20 minutes in a game just three times in her career.
Milwaukee surrendered 70-plus points in a game for the first time since Dec. 4 at Wisconsin, a span of 13 games.
Freshman guard Maurika Hickman and freshman forward Lindsay Laur each scored 20 points in Milwaukee's loss to Green Bay on Saturday. It marked the second time this season that UWM had two players score 20 points or more.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday as they travel to Cleveland State. UWM concludes the week on Saturday against Youngstown State.
UIC
The Flames (8-12 overall, 4-5 Horizon League) posted a pair of home League wins this past week as they took down Wright State 63-60 on Thursday and Detroit on Saturday 66-36.
UIC's win over Detroit was it largest margin of victory since an 84-39 win over Alabama State back on Nov. 20, 2005.
After beginning League play with a 0-4 record, the Flames have rebounded to win four of the last five games.
Sophomore guard Jessie Miller led UIC with 15.5 points per game this past week. She also led the team with six three-pointers and a .571 field goal percentage.
In addition, sophomore guard Briana Hinkle averaged 11.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
UIC returns to action Thursday when it travels to Butler and closes out the week at Valparaiso.
Valparaiso
The Crusaders (9-11 overall, 4-5 Horizon League) dropped a pair home games this past week losing to Youngstown State on Thursday 92-79 and Cleveland State on Saturday 86-63.
The Crusaders loss on Saturday to Cleveland State marked their fifth defeat in the last seven games.
Junior forward Aimee Litka had her first career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against YSU.
Litka played all 40 minutes against YSU, which marked the third time this year she has played a complete game.
Junior guard Launa Hochstetler had a career-high nine assists against YSU. Hochstetler finished the weekend with 12 assists and just two turnovers.
Valparaiso wraps up a four-game home stand this week as it welcomes Loyola on Thursday and UIC on Saturday.
Wright State
The Raiders (8-12 overall, 5-4 Horizon League) split a pair of games in Chicago last week, falling 63-60 at UIC on Thursday, but rebounded to take down Loyola 56-49 on Saturday.
Against UIC, freshman guard Shey Peddy paced the Raiders with 19 points, 13 of which came in the first half. She also added five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Freshman guard LaShawna Thomas added 10 points, while senior forwards Whitney Lewis and Sierra Crayton each had eight.
The eight points for Lewis at UIC gave her exactly 1,000 for her career as she becomes the 16th Raider all-time to reach the milestone. She is one of three active players in the League with 1,000 points or more joining Butler's Lade Akande and Milwaukee's Traci Edwards.
On Saturday, Wright State saw a six-point lead slip away to Loyola with a minute remaining, but the Raiders scored the final seven points, five coming from Peddy, to record the win. The victory was the second road decision in favor of WSU this season, with the other coming at Detroit on Jan. 12.
Peddy led all scorers with 18 and added four assists and four steals, while Thomas chipped in 15 points, nine in the second half.
Wright State will play host to Detroit on Saturday in itsonly action of the week.
Youngstown State
The Penguins (10-10 overall, 5-4 Horizon League) split a pair of road League games this past week as they defeated Valparaiso 92-79 on Thursday and fell to Butler 63-48 on Saturday.
YSU's 92 points against Valparaiso marked the first time since 2005 that the Penguins scored at least 90 points in a game. The last time YSU scored at least 90 points was in a 97-73 win over IPFW on Jan. 18, 2005.
Senior guard Lauren Branson continues her climb on the career assists chart with 431 and needs 27 more to move into fifth place past Colleen Cook (447, 1994-98).
Senior forward Jessica Schloemp extended her consecutive games streak to 93.
YSU tied the second-highest single-game total for most three-pointers made in a game with 14 against Valparaiso. The last time YSU made 14 three-pointers in a game was against Western Illinois on Jan. 19, 1998.
Senior guard Heather Karner moved into a tie for ninth place on the all-time three-point list with 101 career three-pointers made.
YSU returns home this week as it welcomes Green Bay on Thursday and Milwaukee on Saturday.
