The 2010-11 Horizon League women’s basketball regular season tips off this weekend with all ten conference teams in action.  The season will begin with seven non-conference match-ups on Friday.

Youngstown State starts the weekend traveling to Pittsburgh for an 11am ET game.  The Penguins return four starters from last year’s 0-30 squad, but are looking to improve under the direction of first year head coach Bob Boldon.

Butler, which came off of a 23-10 season a year ago, heads to Peoria, Ill. for a 3pm game at Bradley.  The Bulldogs return four starters from last year, which turned out to be one of the best in school history, as they finished second in the conference and advanced to the WNIT.

Wright State, which comes to Indianapolis to take on IUPUI, will open the season with a 7pm ET game.  The Raider’s first year head coach, Mike Bradbury, is joined by eight newcomers for the 2010 campaign.

Also at 7pm, UIC goes up against Niagara in New York, Loyola travels to Ypsilanti, Mich. to face Eastern Michigan and Detroit plays host to Oakland.

The Flames return preseason first team selection Jasmine Bailey who averaged 12 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest last year, while the Ramblers, which had the most successful season in almost a decade in 2010 (15-15), return three starters to the lineup.

The Titans also came off of a successful season, finishing second in the league at 14-4, 17-14 overall.  Fans can catch the Detroit-Oakland game live on the Horizon League Network.

Valparaiso wraps up the Friday night line up with an 8 pm ET tip off in the opening round of the 2010 Preseason WNIT at Depaul.  Only the second time participating in the tournament in program history, the Crusaders look to improve upon last season’s 9-21 record.

Cleveland State begins its season on Saturday with a 2 pm ET road contest against Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y.  The Vikings will look to the leadership of lone senior Shawnita Garland, who was a member of last year’s Horizon League Championship team.  The guard is also a preseason Horizon League first team selection.

Milwaukee will play its home opener against No. 9 Oklahoma on Saturday.  The Panthers return three starters from last season, including senior Lindsay Laur, who led the team in scoring and rebounding.  Tip off between the Panthers and the 2010 Final Four Sooners is scheduled for 2pm ET and can be seen live on the Horizon League Network.

Green Bay will begin its regular season on Saturday with a 4:30 tip off against George Washing at the Best Buy Classic in Minneapolis, Minn.   The Phoenix, which brings an eight-game regular season winning streak into the weekend, returns all five of its starters from a season ago, including preseason Player of the Year selection Kayla Tetschlag.
