INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit Mercy striker Rachel Russo netted a hat trick during the opening weekend of the 2017 season and has been named Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week. Milwaukee goalkeeper Mallory Geurts posted a pair of clean sheets against Robert Morris and Akron and has been named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week.

Freshmen Rachel Russo led the Titans to their first win of 2017 and it was on the road as she tallied a hat trick with three goals at Fort Wayne. The hat trick was the first By a Titan since 2013 and believed to be just the second in school history by a freshman. She also accomplished the task taking just three shots own the day. Russo broke a scoreless tie just a minute into the second half netting the first Detroit Mercy goal of the season. Just 1:03 later, she put the Titans up 2-0 and capped the day in the final minute of play firing one past the keeper for her third goal.

Milwaukee goalkeeper Mallory Geurts posted back-to-back shutouts over the weekend, running her scoreless streak to 200 minutes following a double-overtime 0-0 draw at Akron and a 2-0 win at Robert Morris. She made 6 saves in the battle with the Zips and 4 more against the Colonials Sunday to earn a 1-0-1 start.
