Horizon League Women's Soccer Players of the Week (September 25)

INDIANAPOLIS –Cleveland State forward Dani Sowinski scored three goals in the Vikings’ 4-2 win over conference opponent Oakland and claims Offensive Player of the Week honors this week. IUPUI goalkeeper Sophia Lipka earns Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season by posting her seventh shutout of the season against conference opponent Detroit Mercy.

Sowinski scored three goals to help lead the Vikings to a 4-2 win over Oakland on Saturday night. She scored in the eighth and 38th minutes to help CSU to a 3-1 lead at the half and then netted a penalty kick in the 67th minute after being taken down from behind in the box. Sowinski in the fourth player in program history to net a hat trick and the first since 2014.

Authored her seventh shutout of the season with a 1-0 win at Detroit on Saturday. Lipka registered three saves on the day. It was her sixth shutout during the current seven-game winning streak. In doing so, she lowered her goals against average to 0.71 on the season while upping her save percentage to 0.87. Lipka’s seven shutouts are one shy of tying IUPUI’s single-season record.
