Horizon League Indoor Track Athletes of the Week

 

Jimel Denham

Loyola, Sophomore, Round Lake Beach, Ill

Denham earned two top-five finishes at the Carthage Division I Invitational last weekend for the Ramblers. Denham won the 55-meter dash with a season-best time of 6.55, placing him in a tie for fourth in school history in the event.  After his feat in the 55m, Denham then finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.65, good for seventh all-time in LU indoor annals.

 

Timeka Walker

UW-Milwaukee, Junior, Milwaukee, Wis.

Walker won two events to lead the Panthers to a first-place finish at the Division I Invitational. She opened her season winning both the 55m and 200m events. In the 55m, she crossed the line in 7.31 before posting a time of 25.89 in the 200m.

Jarrod Davis

Youngstown State, Sr., East Canton, Ohio

Davis finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 60-10 1/2 at the Black Squirrel Classic.

 

Dan Zinser

Detroit, Sr., Roseville, Mich.

Zinser set a personal best in 3000m race while finishing fourth with a time of 8:46.63. This cut 12 seconds off of Zinser's previous best time, and was the fifth best ever time by a Titan male in that race.

 

Justin Gorman

UW-Milwaukee, Jr., Spring Green, Wis.

Gorman helped the Panthers to a win at the Division I Invitational, winning the 800m and running with the first-place 4x400m relay. His time of 1:54.27 in the 800m broke his own meet record, while he helped the relay post a time of 3:20.09.

 

Brandon Cook

UIC, Sr., Decatur, Ill.

Cook tabbed a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash at the Purdue Invite on Saturday, crossing in 23.02. Cook also picked up a fifth place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.14) at the event.

 

Inshirah Grimes

Loyola, Sr., Shaker Heights, Ohio

After setting a school record in the shot put last month, Grimes had  another strong performance as she captured first-place honors in the event at the Carthage Division I Invitational last weekend. Grimes defeated her nearest competitor by almost one foot with a toss of 41-05.75.

 

Bethany Anderson

Youngstown State, So., Jamestown, N.Y.

 Bethany Anderson placed fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 54-9 1/2 and fifth in the shot put with a mark of 43-1.

 

Andrea Karl

Detroit, Sr., Casco City, Mich.

Karl won the 3000m race with a time of 10:16.94. That was a personal record, beating her previous best by 14 seconds. It is also the sixth best time ever by a Titan female in the 3000m race.

 

Idara Essien

UIC, So., Wheaton, Ill.

Essien broke the school record in the triple jump on Saturday at the Purdue Invite, leaping 11.42m which shattered the previous mark of 10.895m set by Jasmin Sutton last season. Essien placed third in the triple jump while also picking up a sixth-place finish at the invite in the long jump (5.00m).

 

Upcoming Schedule

 

All seven teams are in action this week, with Youngstown State starting the competition on Thursday at Robert Morris.  Horizon League Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Jimel Denham and the Loyola Ramblers will be competing with Butler University at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, while Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Timeka Walker will lead the UW-Milwaukee Panthers into Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Adidas Classic on Saturday.  Also on the schedule for Saturday are Detroit at the Red Simmons Invitational, Wright State at the Marietta Open and UIC at the Eastern Illinois Mega Meet.
