Male Athlete of the Week

 

Jeremy Majors

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Janesborrow, Ga.

Majors won the 800-meter invitational at the Indiana Relays last Friday. He crossed the line in 1:50.46. The time was a personal best and moved Majors up to third in school history in the event.  Majors now owns the top League time in the event for the season.

 

Female Athlete of the Week

 

Alisha Anthony

Youngstown State

Fr., Van Wert, Ohio

Anthony won the long jump in two divisions for Youngstown State on Saturday at the Akron Invitational. She posted a first-place mark of 19'1.5" in the elite gold division and also won the blue division with a mark of 18'3". The first mark is more than a foot better than any other posted by a League jumper this season She also finished third in the triple jump (34"2.25") and posted a personal-best time of :08.03 in the 60-meter dash.

Joe Lahmon

Youngstown State

Jr., Mount Vernon, Ohio

Lahmon won the shot put by more than a foot with a personal-best mark of 50 feet and placed fourth in the weight throw (54'4.75") at the Akron Open on Saturday.

 

Joe Mahalick

Loyola

Jr., Joliet, Ill.

Mahalick ran the 800-meter dash in 1:56.02 to finish fifth in the final heat on Saturday at the Indiana Relays. Earlier, he ran the preliminary round in 1:55.56, which was only .79 seconds off his career-best pace.

 

Andrew Hayner

Detroit

Jr., Royal Oak, Mich.

Hayner finished sixth in the mile with a personal record time of 4:22.86 at the Akron Invitational.

 

Scott Overall

Butler

Sr., Twickenham, Middlesex, U.K.

Overall broke his own school record in the 3,000-meter run and posted the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA Division I this season with a 7:55.36 effort at the Meyo Invitational.  He placed fifth in the race, which included some of the nation's top runners. Overall will compete in a nationally-televised race this weekend at the Tyson Invitational, hosted by Arkansas.  He'll run the Mile Invitational, which will be shown on ESPN2 on Sunday, Feb. 11, between 1-3 p.m.

 

Alex Sutphen

UIC

So., Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Sutphen recorded his second individual event title this season, taking top honors in the 5,000-meter race to highlight the UIC effort at the Tadd Metzger Invitational hosted by Carthage College on Saturday. Sutphen edged out teammate Jim Sulzberger for first place with a time of 15:27.14. Sulzberger crossed the line in 15:34.12 to take second.

 

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week

 

Erin Havener

UW-Milwaukee

Fr., Ashwaubenon, Wis.

Havener tied for fourth-place in the pole vault at the Indiana Relays last weekend. She cleared a height of 12'4.75" in the event, which was a new personal best. She also moved up to second in school history in the event and now owns the top performance in the League.

 

Marcia Faustin

Loyola

Sr., Orland Park, Ill.

The senior from Orland Park, Ill., registered one of Loyola's two top-10 performances at the Indiana Relays with a mark of 5'6" in the high jump gave her seventh place in the meet.

 

Idara Essien

UIC

Jr., Wheaton, Ill.

Essien looked strong in her 2007 debut, as the reigning Horizon League triple jump champion took first in her strongest event with a leap of 37'4" at the Carthage Invitational. She also placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 16'3".
