Male Athlete of the Week

 

Mike Savegnago

UIC

So., Winfield, Ill.

Savegnago highlighted the UIC men's track and field team's efforts at the Dick Pond Invitational on Saturday, winning the high jump while placing second in the pole vault. Savegnago cleared 6'4" en route to claiming the high jump title, while he went over the bar at 15"0.25" in the pole vault.

 

Female Athlete of the Week

 

Bethany Anderson

Youngstown State

Jr., Jamestown, N.Y.

Anderson broke her own school record in the weight throw with a first-place mark of 60'10" at the All-Ohio Championships. The distance was 3'7.75" further than the second-place finisher and would have broken the League championship record by 1'5". She now ranks first on the League's top performances chart by just under 10 feet. Anderson also finished seventh in the shot put at the All-Ohio Championship and third in the weight throw at the Findlay Open.

Melvin Cross

Detroit

Sr., Lathrup Village, Mich.

Cross finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 55'1". The mark is a new personal record, and the fourth-best throw ever by a Titan.

 

Nick Kruse

Youngstown State

Sr., Napoleon, Ohio

Kruse won the mile with a time of 4:22.85 at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday. He also placed seventh in the 3,000 meters and anchored YSU's distance medley relay that placed second.

 

Sam Romanoski

Loyola

Sr., Lake Zurich, Ill.

Romanoski led Loyola at the Iowa State Classic by finishing third in the 5,000-meter race with a personal-best time of 14:32.56.

 

Nick Wichert

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Milwaukee, Wis.

Wichert set a school record in the weight throw last weekend at the Iowa State Classic. He threw 56'5.5" in the event to break the mark of 55'11.25" and place 20th in the event.

Amesha Baker

UIC

Fr., Mundelein, Ill.

Baker paced the UIC women's track and field team at the Dick Pond Invitational on Saturday as she recorded her first collegiate individual event title, taking the triple jump crown with a personal best leap of 37'5". The freshman also took second in the 55-meter hurdles in :08.92.

 

Ashley Schinske

Detroit

So., Paw Paw, Mich.

Schinske finished fifth in the pentathlon with a score of 2905. The mark improves on the all-time best score at Detroit that she already owned. She set new personal records in the shot put (30'7.75"), long jump (16'2.25") and 800 meters (2:30.76).

 

Amanda Domich

Loyola

Sr., Algonquin, Ill.

Domich earned 10th place with a personal-best time of 17:04.87 to lead Loyola at the Iowa State Classic.

 

Jenni Saarinen

UW-Milwaukee

So., Lappeenranta, Finland

Saarinen competed in the pentathlon at the Iowa State Classic over the weekend, smashing her own school record with a score of 3688 points to take second. Her score eclipsed the mark of 3459 she set at last year's League meet, and fell just 12 points shy of the NCAA Provisional score of 3700 and is a League-best score by 270 points. She also competed in the long jump, clearing 18'6" for 19th and tying her personal best that sits eighth in school history.
