Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

 

Darren Cole

UW-Milwaukee, So., Milwaukee, Wis.

Cole won two events to lead the Panthers to a 3-0 record at their own UWM Panther Tune Up. He  won both the long and triple jump events with a jump of 22-0 1/4 in the long and 46-3 1/2 in the triple.

 

Anna Hinterschied                 

Loyola, Sr., Reynoldsburg, Ohio

Hinterschied captured her first event title of the season at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Tune-Up last weekend, winning the 1,000-meter run. Her time of 2:57.14 is second-best in the Horizon League this season and puts her third on LU's career annals in the event.

Marcus Myrick            

Loyola, So., Cincinnati, Ohio

Competing in his first meet of the year, Myrick finished second in the high jump at last weekend's UW-Milwaukee Panther Tune Up with a leap of 5-10.75.

 

Kelvin Cousins

Detroit, So., Detroit, Mich.

Cousins finished fifth in the weight throw with a personal record of 50 feet 8.75 inches at the Silverston Invitational. The mark is also the sixth best throw by a Titan all-time.

 

Damian Wright

Youngstown State, Sr., Plantation, Fla.

Damian Wright highlighted the men's performances at the Kent State Tune-Up with a personal-best time of 22.08 in the 200m to place second and 6.45 in the 55m dash to place third. He now ranks second all-time in the 55m and fifth all-time in the 200m. The converted 55m time ranks first in the Horizon League, and he ranks third in the 200m.

Dorian Hayes
UIC, Fr., Chicago, IL
Hayes blazed his way to a win in the 60-meter dash at the UWM Final Tune-up, crossing first in a personal best time of 6.95. That time was the lowest tallied by a UIC runner this season. Hayes then wrapped up his day with a second place finish in the 200-meter dash in 23.12.


 

Katie Stuckey

Butler, Sr., Vincennes, Ind.

Stuckey captured Butler's lone individual championship at the Hoosier Hills Invitational with a win in the women's 3,000 meter run.  She paced the 16-runner field with a winning time of 10:02.94.

 

Andrea Karl

Detroit, Sr., Casco, Mich.

Karl set a Horizon League best for this season with her 800 meter time of 2:14.13 at the Silverston Invitational. Her time, which earned her second in the race, is more than two seconds faster than the second-fastest time this season.

 

Jennifer Monahan      

Wright State, So., Ravenna, Ohio

Monahan had the best finish for the Raiders at the Scarlet & Gray Invitational on Saturday with a fourth place in the pole vault in Columbus (2.68 meters).

 

Joy VanLaanen

UW-Milwaukee, So., Green Bay, Wis.

VanLaanen won the pole vault at the UWM Panther Tune Up with a Klotsche Center record height of 12-3 3/4. Milwaukee went 3-1 at the meet, scoring wins over UIC, Loyola and Chicago State.

 

Satara Freeman

Youngstown State, Sr., Canton, Ohio

Youngstown State senior Satara Freeman won the 55-meter hurdles over the weekend at the Kent State Tune-Up. Freeman missed the school record by four hundredths of a second with a time of 8.06 seconds in the event. She also ranks first in the Horizon League in the event.

Idara Essien
UIC, Fr., Wheaton, IL
Essien continued to dominate the women's triple jump at the UWM Final Tune-up with a leap of 11.89m that gave her a first-place finish at the event.


 

Upcoming Schedule

All teams head to Kent, Ohio, this weekend for the Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Youngstown State University.  After vying for the conference crown, several teams will head to the Alex Wilson Invitational, held in South Bend, Ind. on March 4, with the hope of qualifying for the 2006 NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championship, held in Fayetteville, Arkansas on March. 10.
