Butler University President Dr. Bobby Fong has announced the appointment of an interim athletic director and the establishment of a ten-person search committee to find a permanent replacement for retiring Athletic Director John Parry. Associate Athletic Director Jon Hind has accepted the position of interim athletic director during the search process, and he will assume that role effective June 1.

Hind, a 1980 graduate of Hamilton College, joined Butler's athletic department as men's lacrosse coach in 1991. He spent his first two years building Butler's first lacrosse team, which debuted in 1993. In 1997, the Bulldogs were ranked in the "Top 20" in the NCAA Division I, and a year later, Hind was named "National Coach of the Year" by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, after leading Butler to the NCAA Tournament. He left his coaching post in 1999 to accept an assistant athletic director's position at Butler, and he was named Associate Athletic Director for Operations in June of 2005.

The national search for a permanent athletic director will begin immediately with a goal of concluding by the end of the summer. Dr. Joseph Kirsch (Butler '64), Professor of Chemistry, Associate Provost and Faculty Athletic Representative to the athletic department will chair the search committee. He will be assisted by vice chair Cameron McGuire ('84), Vice President of University Advancement.

The search committee also includes Carol Reep, Senior Associate Athletic Director; Sharon Clark, Volleyball Head Coach; Joe Franklin, Track and Cross Country Head Coach; Clarence Crain ('73), Vice Chair Butler Board of Trustees; Barbara Skinner ('83), B-Association Executive Committee member; Joe Eaton ('88), former President, Butler Alumni Board of Directors; Chris Spitler, member of the Butler men's golf team; and Jim McGrath, Associate Athletic Director for Sports Information.
