Kane Named to Soccer America's All-Freshman First Team

INDIANAPOLIS - Freshman goalkeeper Erin Kane of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team was named to Soccer America's Freshman All-America First Team, the magazine announced this week.

Kane also earned Third-Team All-Freshman honors from Soccer Buzz magazine earlier this off-season.

Kane posted the best season by a UW-Milwaukee keeper in team history as a freshman. She set a Horizon League record with 13 shutouts and set a school-standard 0.58 goals-against average, finishing 15th in the nation in GAA. Kane started all 21 games in goal, played over 2000 minutes and posted an 11-5-5 record. She also posted a shutout streak of over 714 minutes, the 14th-longest streak in NCAA Division I history.

The first-year keeper earned First-Team All-League honors and garnered three League Player of the Week citations during the regular season. She was also the Most Valuable Player at the League Championship tournament, posting three shutouts to help UW-Milwaukee win the 2005 League title. The Panthers reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament after a penalty-kick victory over Purdue in the opening round.

UCLA placed three players on the Soccer America All-Freshman teams, while Florida State and Penn State each had two honorees. The national champion Portland Pilots were represented by midfielder Megan Rapinoe and perennial powerhouses Notre Dame (Kerri Hanks) and North Carolina (Yael Averbuch) placed one player apiece.
