INDIANAPOLIS -- Valparaiso forward Sharon Karungi (Kampala, Uganda) has been named the Horizon League women’s basketball Player of the Week after leading the Crusaders to two wins at the Toledo Invite and Cleveland State guard Khayla Livingston (Hollywood, Fla.) has been named Freshman of the Week after helping the Vikings to a non-conference win over Ohio.
Karungi recorded a pair of double-doubles for the Crusaders as Valpo won both of its games at the Toledo Invite. She opened with 16 points and 14 rebounds, shooting 7-of-9 from the field in the second half, in Valpo’s 74-50 win over Chicago State. The next day, Karungi had 15 points and 14 rebounds as the Crusaders defeated Toledo, 63-61. Karungi scored the game-winning basket in the contest, grabbing teammate Lexi Miller’s miss and laying it in with three seconds remaining.
For the weekend, Karungi scored 31 points - on 55.6 percent shooting from the field - and grabbed 28 rebounds as she was named Most Valuable Player of the Toledo Invite.
Livingston came-off-the-bench to score a career-high nine points in Cleveland State’s 76-64 win over Ohio on Thursday. The Hollywood, Fla., native, who had scored 13 points in the first seven games of her career, was 2-of-4 from the field and 5-of-6 from the foul line, while also passing out three assists, grabbing two rebounds and registering one steal.
Top Performers for the Week:
Kim Bee, Oakland (Sr., F) - Bee recorded a double-double versus Manhattan, scoring a career-high 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the season.
Ashley Green, Milwaukee (Jr., F) - Green averaged 16.0 ppg., and 6.0 rebounds per game last week for UWM. She shot 56 percent from the floor (14-of-25), including 50 percent (4-of-8) from three-point range.
Megan Hatter, Detroit (Sr., F) - Hatter averaged a double-double in the two games at the Toledo Invite, finishing with averages of 17.5 ppg., and 10.0 rpg. She posted a career-high 21 points and tied her career-high with 11 rebounds versus Chicago State.
Kaili Lukan, Green Bay (So., G) - Lukan registered the first double-double of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds against South Dakota State.
Tay’ler Mingo, Wright State (Jr., G) - Mingo led the Raiders with 15 points in their contest at seventh-ranked Louisville.
Heidi Schlegel, Youngstown State (Jr., F) - Schlegel averaged 18.0 ppg., and 5.0 rpg. for the Penguins last week. She scored a game-high 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting versus Cincinnati.
Haley Schmitt, Cleveland State (Sr., F) - Schmitt tallied the first double-double of her career with a career-high 20 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in CSU’s 76-64 win over Ohio. She also tied her career-high with four three-pointers against the Bobcats.
Rachel Story, UIC (Sr., G) - Story scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half in the Flames 62-57 win at Butler. She was 6-of-7 from the field in the second half and finished with five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Tesha Buck, Green Bay (Fr., G) - Buck had six points, four rebounds and three assists in GB’s game against South Dakota State.
Megan Galloway, Detroit (Fr., F) - Galloway had 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and pulled down a season-high eight rebounds against Toledo.
Kelsea Newman, Youngstown State (Fr., F) - Newman scored 12 points on four three-pointers in the first half against Miami (Ohio). She finished the game with 13 points.
