INDIANAPOLIS -- Loyola University Chicago sophomore Katie Groesch has been named Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the period of Oct. 19-25.
Groesch, a goalkeeper from Decatur, Ill., registered 10 saves in 180 scoreless minutes last week. She helped the Ramblers post back-to-back 1-0 wins over the University of Detroit Mercy on Friday and Butler University on Sunday.
Loyola will enter its regular-season finale on Wednesday at No. 19 Purdue University with a 5-12-2 overall record. The Ramblers dropped their first seven contests in 2009, but have rebounded to go 4-3-1 over their last eight affairs.
Loyola has secured a No. 4 seed for the upcoming Horizon League Championship and will host the No. 5 seed in a quarterfinal tilt on Sunday, Nov. 1.
Groesch ends Sarah Hagen's streak of five consecutive Player of the Week selections. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee sophomore had earned every weekly award since Sept. 21, but the Panthers did not play last week.
