Kelsey Frey Named Green Bay Head Women's Golf Coach

A Green Bay native and former Division I student-athlete, Kelsey Frey has been named Green Bay’s head women’s golf coach, Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie announced on Monday.

“Kelsey is a great addition to the Phoenix family,” Gillespie said. “Her strong Wisconsin roots and her proven ability to teach the game will elevate our program to the next level. She is an excellent role model for our young women and we are thrilled to have her leading our team.”

Frey is currently the program director for The First Tee of Northeast Wisconsin and a personal trainer for the Aurora Hole-In-One program. She has also worked in various roles at NorthBrook Country Club.

"I appreciate the opportunity to join the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay,” said Frey. “I look forward to continuing to build the program and help the players achieve success both on and off of the golf course during their time at Green Bay."

A graduate of Preble High School, Frey had an accomplished amateur career which included twice earning first-team all-state honors and finishing as the runner-up at the WIAA High School state tournament in 2002 and 2005. She was also a 2005 U.S. Junior Qualifier and won the WWSGA State Junior Match Play championship in 2004 and 2005.

Frey attended the University of Wisconsin, where she competed as a varsity member of the women’s golf team for four years. An Academic All-Big Ten selection, she posted a career scoring average of 78.17, which currently ranks as 11th in program history. Frey turned professional in 2011 and competed on the LPGA Futures Tour.

The Phoenix women’s golf team returns six players from the 2013 campaign and will open the 2014 season with the Green Bay Invitational on Sept. 10-12 at Green Bay Country Club.
