INDIANAPOLIS -- Cleveland State’s Justin Kermack and Milwaukee’s Emily McClellan are the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week for Nov. 26-Dec. 2.
Kermack, a sophomore from Durban, South Africa, broke the Cleveland State school record in the 200-butterfly at the AT&T Winter National Championships held at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. Kermack swam the event in 1:46.50, besting the old school record (1:47.30) he set last year, to finish sixth out of 34 swimmers. The CSU swimmer also competed in the 400-individual medley, finishing with a time of 3:55.98
McClellan, a junior from Delavan, Wis., set numerous records last weekend while competing in the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. McClellan swam an NCAA A-cut time of :59.44 in the 100-breast to finish first out of 32 competitors. The time was a meet and school record. The Horizon League’s Women’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year last season set a school and Horizon League record by finishing with a time of 1:59.830 in the 200-individual medley. In her third individual event, McClellan finished first in the 200-breast (2:10.64) to set a meet record.
