INDIANAPOLIS -- Cleveland State senior Kailey Klein has been named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Dec. 14-20. The selection marks Klein's sixth career weekly honor from the League office and her first this season.
Klein, a guard from Cherry, Ill., recorded 28 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 77-75 upset of Indiana on Saturday. She knocked down 10-of-25 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line in the overtime victory over the Hoosiers.
Cleveland State's fourth win of the campaign was its first over a Bowl Championship Series Conference opponent since Dec. 30, 1996, when the Vikings knocked off Big East foe Syracuse. CSU defeated Louisville on Dec. 18, 2003, but the Cardinals were a Conference USA member at the time.
Klein ranks among League leaders in scoring (T-4th, 14.4), steals (6th, 1.8), blocked shots (T-6th, 0.9) and rebounding (10th, 5.6) through nine contests this season.
Cleveland State, 4-5 overall, returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Lake Erie at 1:30 p.m. ET.
