Koenig, Timm Selected CoSIDA Academic All-District

Milwaukee senior outfielder Sam Koenig and Wright State senior second baseman Michael Timm were both selected to their respective CoSIDA Academic All-District teams on Thursday.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Both players will advance to a national ballot later this month.

The award is a career-first for Koenig. It also marks the first time a UWM baseball player has been honored since 2011 and the seventh time overall.

In his senior year, Koenig leads the Horizon League in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage, but he ranks in the top 25 among NCAA leaders, placing fourth with a .734 slugging percentage, 16th in the nation with a .391 batting average and 23rd with a .485 on-base percentage. He is also currently leading the conference in hits, runs, doubles, home runs and total bases.

Koenig carries a 3.86 grade-point average while majoring in education. The outfielder is a two-time Horizon League Batter of the Week selection this season.

Timm, who has a 3.83 GPA in finance, is the reigning Horizon League Batter of the Week after hitting .500 with four RBI in a three-game series against UIC last weekend at Nischwitz Stadium.  Overall on the season, Timm is hitting .309 with 29 RBI and is tied for the team lead in doubles with 15.  In league play, he is hitting a team-best .363 with 19 RBI and 10 doubles.

A Second Team All-Mideast Region selection in 2014, Timm was also selected First Team All-Horizon League last season and to the league's All-Newcomer Team in 2012.

Named to the baseball Academic All-Horizon League Team in 2013 and 2014, Timm was a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree in 2014 and was chosen as the league's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month in May of 2013.  One of 30 candidates nationally for the Senior CLASS (Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School) Award, he is also the treasurer on WSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached at least sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
