Kraker Selected by Washington Mystics in WNBA Draft

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After an illustrious career with the Phoenix, Green Bay women's basketball redshirt graduate Mehryn Kraker (West Allis, Wis.) finished one of the most memorable seasons in Green Bay history by hearing her named called in the WNBA Draft Thursday evening, with the call coming from the Washington Mystics in the third round as the 27th overall selection.

Kraker becomes just the second player in program history to have the pleasure of hearing her name called on WNBA Draft night, with All-American Julie Wojta being the only other player in program history to accomplish the same feat.

On the court, Kraker was pivotal to Green Bay’s 19th consecutive regular season championship before helping lead the Phoenix to the Horizon League tournament title. The guard averaged 17.6 points per game - the first Phoenix player to average more than 15 points since the 2011-12 season.

The senior leader has earned plenty of hardware for the season, collecting Horizon League Player of the Year, First Team All-League, All-Tournament team and espnW’s Mid-Major Player of the Year honors. Kraker finished her stellar career with 1,671 points and leads the program in career three-point field goals made with 234 triples.

“I’m thrilled and ready for the opportunity,” Kraker said after hearing her name called on Thursday evening. “I’m also thankful to see the hard work and sacrifices pay off. Not only for myself but for this program, this university, my family and those who have supported me.”

Green Bay is one of two Horizon League teams to have a player suit up for the WNBA, with multiple players doing so in addition to Wojta. Chandra Johnson, who played for the Phoenix from 2000-03, appeared in eight games for the Los Angeles Sparks after signing as a free agent in 2003. Natalie Berglin, who was a member of the Phoenix from 2004-07, signed a training camp contract with the Connecticut Sun in 2008. Kailey Klein, who was a member of Cleveland State from 2006-10, signed a training camp contract with the Connecticut Sun in 2010 and logged minutes during the preseason.
