Indianapolis, Ind. -- As most teams reach the midpoint of the 2006 men's soccer season this week, many Horizon League teams have taken their place among the national leaders, according to statistics released by the NCAA on Monday (Sept. 25). The statistics include all matches played through Sunday (Sept. 24).

Six of the eight League entries can be found among the nation's top 30 in at least one statistical category, with Wright State University freshman Braden Fleak sixth on the individual scoring chart. The only rookie in the top 15, Fleak's torrid start has produced ten goals and two assists (22 points) in his first nine contests, a 2.44 points-per-game pace which is five spots ahead of University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior Joshua Okoampa (eight goals and three assists for 19 points, 2.11 per contest). Fleak and Okoampa also rank fifth and ninth, respectively, with averages of 1.11 and 0.89 goals per appearance.

University of Detroit Mercy senior Vahid Assadpour is one of three League players among the top 30 set-up artists, averaging 0.63 assists per game (five in eight appearances) to rank 13th in the nation. Cleveland State University freshman Andrew Gutting (20th with six in ten outings) and Detroit freshman Robert Merritt (22nd with four in seven matches) also appear on that list.

Among goalkeepers, University of Illinois at Chicago freshman Jovan Bubonja owns the fourth-best goals-against average, a 0.345 mark based on three goals allowed in 783 minutes. Bubonja has four shutouts this season, but senior Sean Bond of crosstown rival Loyola University Chicago has taken that one step further with five whitewashes while fashioning a 0.564 GAA to rank 15th nationally. Wright State junior Tebias Mason stands 19th with his average of 5.11 saves per match.

Winthrop University's Saidi Isaac tops the Division I charts with 11 goals and 26 points in eight games, with Jacksonville University's Tommy Krizanovic (12 goals and 26 points in nine outings) second on both lists. Colgate University's David Cappuccio has yet to allow a goal in 400 minutes of action this season with Georgia State University's Filipe Carvalho stopping 47 shots in seven appearances (6.71 per match) to lead that list.

The individual achievements have also led to League representation on the team stat charts. UW-Green Bay boasts the nation's ninth-best scoring pace---averaging 2.67 goals per game---with Wright State 11th at 2.44 and UIC 28th with a rate of 2.00 goals per match. The Flames also rank fourth as a team with a 0.32 goals-against average, but the most important number may be winning percentage where UIC is fourth at .889. The Flames (7-0-2) are one of only six remaining unbeaten teams in Division I, with the University of Washington (8-0-0) sporting the only perfect record.

The University of San Diego tops the scoring charts with a lofty 3.63 goals-per-match rate, while Colgate (0.00 GAA) claims the nation's best scoring defense.
