CHICAGO -- Last weekend, members of the Loyola University Chicago softball program took time out of their busy schedules to help those less fortunate. On November 12, the Ramblers volunteered their time performing a variety of tasks at the Special Olympics State Floor Hockey Tournament, which was held at Northeastern Illinois University.
Members of the Loyola softball squad served as timekeepers, scorekeepers and penalty box monitors, but their responsibilities also included duties that were even more personal, according to senior Lauren Arceneaux.
“While those were our official jobs, we also served as cheerleaders, high-five recipients and positive voices for worried players,” Arceneaux said. “It was incredible to see the passion and enthusiasm that each player had for the game.”
After the tournament, the Ramblers helped move an entire rink, which was donated by Special Olympics, into another gym and along the way made friends that will last a lifetime.
