Loyola 1, UW-Green Bay 0

GREEN BAY, Wis.--- Sixth seeded Loyola University defeated third-seeded University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 1-0, Thursday night to advance to the semifinals of the Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship.

After 76 minutes of scoreless play by both teams, Rambler sophomore Stephanie Pauli netted the only goal of the match, a knock-in on a loose ball from Amy Lomas. Throughout the course of the game, both goaltenders, UW-Green Bay's Brooke Wikgren and Loyola's Emily Feick, combined for five saves, including two from Feick in the second half.

Horizon League Player of the Year Sarah Oligney led all players with five shots on the night, while First Team All-League selection Sarah Gross and Leah Larson added three apiece for Phoenix. Green Bay outshot the Ramblers 14 to 5 on the night, but, in the end, Loyola needed only one to end the year for the Phoenix.

UW-Green Bay finished the season at 9-9-1, after having won five of their last seven matches. The loss was just the fourth shutout of the season suffered Phoenix. With the win, Loyola improved to 8-9-1 and will face second-seeded Detroit in semifinal match #2 on Friday, Nov.. 4 at 6:30 p.m. CT.

The 2005 Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship will be held Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 3-6, at Aldo Santaga Stadium on the campus of UW-Green Bay. The winner of Sunday's championship match will earn the League's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship which will begin Nov. 11 at campus sites.
