INDIANAPOLIS –- Loyola’s Brooke Andresen and Youngstown State’s Drew Dosch have been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Month for the month of April.
Andresen, a softball player for the Ramblers, helped Loyola to a 13-8 record, which included wins over Northwestern, by batting .360 (27-for-75) with 13 runs scored, three doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI in April. The junior reached the base safely in 20 of the Ramblers’ 21 games in April and had a season-best, 13-game hitting streak from March 31-April 14. Andresen recorded seven multi-hit games in April, including three-hit efforts in a loss to Cleveland State on April 14 and a victory over Valparaiso on April 28. She also went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the 5-3 loss to CSU and she is trying to become the first Rambler since Yasmin Khan (1998-2000) to hit over .300 in each of her first three seasons at Loyola.
Off the field, Andresen is a english/secondary education major and holds a GPA of 3.73.. She is a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and was part of the 2011 Horizon League Softball All-Academic Team. She was also named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete in 2011. Andresen is one of 25 seniors-to-be in the entire University named to the prestigious Maroon & Gold Society for the 2012-13 academic year and is an active member of Loyola’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Dosch is a hard-hitting baseball player at Youngstown State. The sophomore batted .381 with 24 hits, 13 runs scored, three home runs, 9 RBIs and two stolen bases during April. He also had a slugging percentage of .540 and posted a .431 on-base percentage in 16 games during the month. Dosch currently ranks third in the Horizon League in batting average while also ranking among the top five in hits, total bases, home runs and stolen bases.
An integrated social sciences education major, Dosch received a 4.00 GPA in each of his first three semesters at YSU. He is the recipient of the 2011-12 Stephen Bartolin, Sr. Scholarship and is a member of YSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month recognizes outstanding academic and athletic achievements. To be eligible for the honor, the student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the month’s competition. Winners are selected by the League’s faculty athletics representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
