INDIANAPOLIS -- Loyola’s Danny Docherty (St. Paul, Minn.) and UIC’s Matt Marzahl (Richmond, Ill.) have been named the Horizon League Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of April 2 - April 8.
Docherty won his second Athlete of the Week award after racing in the 10,000-meter run at the Stanford Invite. The senior moved into second place on Loyola’s all-time list in the 10K after posting a time of 29:16.46 to take sixth place out of 43 competitors. His time is the top in the Horizon League so far this year and ranks 16th in the national rankings.
Marzahl earns his first Athlete of the Week honor in his collegiate career after competing in the decathlon at the Chicagoland Championships. The freshman scored 5,351 points to take second place out of nine competitors. He won the high jump event (1.86m) and took second in both the shot put and discus, throwing 10.72m and 32.32m, respectively.
Loyola will be back in action this weekend when it heads to Columbia, Missouri for the Tom Botts inviational at Mizzou. UIC will also be competing at the Eagle Invitational in Lisle, Ill.
