CHICAGO -- Former Loyola University Chicago catcher Jenna Grim and current graduate assistant coach Nicole Pauly will take their teams into the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Championship Series this week in Sulphur, La. The tournament runs August 18-21.
Pauly has belted six home runs and posted a team-high 18 RBI, while also adding three doubles, as she helped the Akron Racers to a 22-17 record during the regular season. A Northwestern graduate, Pauly helped coach Loyola to the Horizon League regular-season title in 2011.
Grim, who was added to the Chicago Bandits’ roster in July and homered in her first career start, brings a .294 (7 for 24) batting average, one homer and three RBI in 11 appearances, into postseason play. The slugging catcher from Beecher, Ill., wrapped up her Loyola career last spring ranked second on the school’s career home runs chart with 31.
The opening series is a best-of-three with Grim and Pauly squaring off against one another as the Bandits face the Racers tomorrow night (August 18) at 7 p.m. ET. The winner of that series will face the winner of the NPF Diamonds – USSSA Pride series in a best-of-three championship series that begins on August 20.
Game 2 of the championship series on Sunday, August 21 will be televised live on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. ET. An “if-necessary” Game 3 of that series would be aired on tape delay on ESPN2 on Monday, August 22 at 5 p.m. ET.
