INDIANAPOLIS -- Loyola University Chicago senior Kevin Harrigan (men's soccer) and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee junior Lauren Felsing (volleyball) have been named U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Aug. 31, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Wednesday (Sept. 3).

Harrigan (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) was a key cog in the defensive unit that helped Loyola posted a 2-1 victory over fifth-ranked Santa Clara University Aug. 30. That victory improved the Ramblers' record to 2-1-2 in its last five matches against ranked teams. Following the win, Loyola (1-0-1) is ranked 30th in this week's College Soccer News Top 30 National Poll, marking the first time in school history the Ramblers have been nationally ranked.

As a math/secondary education major, Harrigan carries a 3.51 grade-point average and has been a member of the Horizon League's Academic Honor Roll.

Felsing (Hartland, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) also was named the League's Defensive Player of the Week after registering 29 kills in Milwaukee's five-game upset of 18th-ranked Iowa State University -- the Panthers' first over a nationally-ranked team since 1999 -- Aug. 29 in the Panther Invitational. She led the League in digs in the opening weekend and now has reached double figures in digs in 28 consecutive matches.

In the classroom, Felsing maintains a 3.982 grade-point average as a marketing major. She has been named to the League's Academic Honor Roll and All-Academic Team, the UWM's Dean List and has received the Milwaukee Athletic Director's Award for the highest departmental grade-point average.

The Horizon League instituted the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
