INDIANAPOLIS - Loyola University Chicago junior forward Cynthia Morote-Ariza has been named Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the period of Sept. 29-Oct. 5. It is Morote-Ariza's first weekly honor from the League office this season and the second of her career.

Morote-Ariza, a Chicago native, scored five points (1g, 3a) in Loyola's two Horizon League victories last weekend. She opened the weekend by scoring the game-winner in the 21st minute of Loyola's 1-0 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee last Friday. The tally enabled LU to defeat the Panthers for the first time since 1994. Additionally, the Rambler victory gave Milwaukee just its second regular-season Horizon League loss since 1999. UWM hadn't lost a League match in the regular season since 2003.

Morote-Ariza followed that performance by recording three assists in a 3-0 win at Cleveland State Sunday. The trio of assists raises her season total to 14, which leads all NCAA Division I players.

Morote-Ariza, the 2007 Horizon League Player of the Year, is tied with Milwaukee's Sarah Hagen for the League lead with 26 points. Her 14 assists is eight more than any other Horizon player.

Morote-Ariza and the Ramblers (7-7-0, 3-0-0 HL) embark on a busy week, hosting the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET before welcoming Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville to Loyola Soccer Park Friday at 8 p.m. ET. Loyola closes the week with a 1 p.m. ET contest at Butler University on Sunday.
